Glad to see you didn't burn it up or abandon it completely.

I haven't has the same issues as you but it taken us the better part of 3 years to get thing squared away with our motor.....and even though it's running well, it still is leaking oil either from the oil pan to cap or rear main seal, I actually rolled a pig mat up and wrapped it around the pan with a big hose clamp. I refuse to pull the motor again for just that again.

We aren't neighbors but your only a few hrs away, we live up by mansfield ohio. If you need help just ask, I know how much an extra set of hands or just someone there can help with things.

I can't tell you how many times I worked my nuts off only to have a failure of a tiny part sideline you at a track. I know that feeling of the track not even caring that you drove all that way and you just want one hit......its very upsetting.

My little man can't stay out of my car. We went this Saturday to 42, did well lost in the semifinals, but I swear connor spent 6 hrs of that day sitting in the driver's seat

    Shawn,

I went digging to find this thread for your hood scoop info and ended up reading the whole thing..

    two questions:
    1) after cutting the hole, how did you mount the scoop to the hood?
    2) will 2020 be the year hulk returns to the streets on a frequent basis? Thanks for the motivational thread!

Hey Louie! Man, I havent looked at this thread in a long time, I oughtta go back and reread it myself! Looks like a lot of pics are now missing which royally sucks, I'm not sure I could put them back together the way it was originally.....

Anyway, as far as mounting the scoop goes. I just marked and drilled holes and bolted it on. There are probably fancier ways of doing it (glass it in, maybe panel bond, I don't know) but I just thought what the heck, there's already I giant hole in the hood, whats a few tiny ones and I had everything in hand to do it that way. My scoop is an old one from Poston and it didnt mate up perfectly with the hood, so I used a small piece of adhesive backed black foam weather strip to fill any gaps. It's worked out well thus far.

As far as the grumpy green bomb getting out into the wild more in 2020, all I can say is I hope so. Depending on how much I can do (if any), I may take it on a short leg of the power tour (despite the white car being much more well suited for it, it's a long haul veteran). I'm trying to decide if I want to take another swing at the track with it, whether that be in Bowling Green or the Ohio event. Only time will tell really.

Got it- thanks man. My car is in get it done mode, which means bolt on and go lol.

Bowling green is on our list as well. It would be cool to see Rusty in person!

Well, I'm am idiot. I took the car out for it's first spin of 2020 and all was well. I parked it after a few mile jaunt and played with the kiddo for a few hours. Went to put the car away, wouldn't start. Crank but no fire. Started smelling gas so figured it was spark. Went with the old school carb-flood method and put the pedal to the floor. Fired up on maybe 3 cylinders. Limped it to the barn and walked away disgusted.

After drinking a few too many barley pops and sleeping it off, the next morning I started thinking about it and one problem clearly came to mind. Coil. Since I like to keep a spare, I ordered one from summit racing which was delivered less than 24 hours later. (I love summit).

Swapped it out, and bump the key, she fires right up as good as ever. So why am I an idiot you ask? Because this is the third msd coil that's failed. And I did something this time Ive never done: opened the instructions. After all, it's a coil, who needs em?! And right there was the DOH! moment in black and white.

My coil is mounted horizontally. So now it sports the "high vibration" version that is ok to mount in any orientation. Yep, I'm an idiot....

Haha! It reminds me of my favorite line from The Grinch movie, where, in his cave he yells, “I’m an idiot!”, and the echo comes back, “You’re an idiot!”

I swear sometimes I work against myself. I just read the whole build thread and could relate to your struggles and triumphs at each step. After 45 years, starting in my teens, of repairing and restoring cars, I’ve had a great number of successes, and maybe even more failures.

The only time I restored a car with a deadline was when I restored a convertible to give to my wife for our 25th anniversary. I made that deadline by only a few hours, and spent a lot of hours over the following few years, disassembling and restoring all the things I didn’t get to because of the timeline.

Although a car project is rarely ever “done”, you can be satisfied that you addressed very core issues the first time around.

I’ve struggled to balance family, work and hobbies. Just when things are in balance, something happens to throw that off. My biggest challenge is how I react to unexpected changes, and I’m still learning to be better about them.

My work gives me purpose, my hobbies give me satisfaction, but my family brings me joy. It sounds like you are resetting your balance, and you can be very proud of that.
