Been off for 10 1/2 years, mainly due to the '08-'12 recession. Gave up due to nothing selling. Was not organized enough to start a store then. Might be better to say - screw the auction format, as time went on in the 00's it worked less and less. Needle and Haystack Syndrome. Am offing all big parts this coming spring - Spring Good guys and or Pate. All remaining large parts will go to either Desert Valley Auto and/or CTC Auto Ranch. Small stuff from then on. Like it or not, it is an avenue, just not sure it works anymore for a smaller seller.

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

eBay just got too greedy. I think they made more on my sales then I have many times and I just quit using them. If I cant sell it local or at a swap meet it is now going in the trash. I am kind of over saving a lot of parts. Too much crap in my garage and stuff needs to go. I am not paying eBay any more.

I totally agree with that. I keep seeing ebay fees and charges to my PayPal but I don't know what they are for. Maybe all the automatic relisting?

Youtube is full of videos of sellers getting burned by Ebay. I took off $30K in listings since I got screwed last month on an idiot who didn't read the description and I had to loose all the shipping. Had proof that I was 100% correct and still they sided with the buyer. They are the next Blockbuster Video!

Likely for auto relisting...... I'm done Dec 31st....I wasn't watching on Christmas Eve and 80 more items relisted.......... That's the last time being violated by them . it must have been a real corporate weasel that came up with that auto relist idea. 5 days and I'm done with them.

I have decades of parts collecting of all makes 50s to 70s cars. Everyone is is always telling I should get a eBay store going. I was just about getting ready to do so. I just came across this thread!!! If I hear you guys right there are just too many misc (free parking fees) going on. On eBay on say a $100 dollar sale what could you expect net?
What are the best alternatives to EBay ? Facebook?,CL? Do you guys have any luck selling Buick parts here?

10 percent for EBay plus you have no protection as a seller. Then PayPal gets 3% and you have no protection through them either. Somebody can buy something and say it’s junk. Your account is frozen for that money and then refunded to the buyer if they send the part back to you which you eat shipping for as well. It’s a joke

I sold several hundred $'s last night while I slept. 40+ listings in my subscription store. All set to stay listed until sold.. My fees are 50-100 a month which is all tax deductible as well as shipping cost and the cost of packing supplies and materials to make the items I sell. As long as the store profits enough to pay the 6500 a year (max contribution) into my IRA I dont really care. Its my only reason for doing it.

Your max contribution for your IRA if you are above the age of 50 is 7000. That started in the year 2019.

Swap meets have been transitioning to general trinkets. Clothing, key fobs, plastic model cars, petroliana, signage, etc. It has probably been going on for quite a while, just have not been aware of it. Went as a seller to an El Paso meet recently, at the technical college (Western Tech). Did not sell a single item (admittedly was one dimensional with sheet metal) but for heavens sake it was '60 to '64 Impala!! In El Paso Texas!! Another seller I know from las Cruces had a '57 Chev post (with title!) for $5000. It did not sell either! Just a lot of tire kickers.

I will only buy on eBay. They take too much money. 10% on final price plus the shipping charges. They take sales tax out for a used item. I sold a use convertible boot and they took sales tax for it. I sell it here or on Facebook, no charges, just helping people get the product they need at a fairer price.
