Don't forget the 6 big block engine shoot out with Car Craft magazine back in 2001 and 2002. BUICK BEAT THEM ALL and was still pulling a vacuum at peak rpm gasping for more air!
    Olds 497, Pontiac 501, Mopar 536, Chevy 542, Ford ???, Buick 555, and 564 with larger carb.

Caveat, I was actually piss drunk when I commented that initial thing about the Pontiacs, but it’s apparently still correct. That seems weak for an engine that displaces 400 cubes with a good cam and very good 6X (almost the best, unless the Ram Air IV heads) heads.

A decent performing engine with a “medium” build should be able to exceed 1hp per cube. I say medium, meaning stock pistons, block, and rods.

It was bugging me too and I had to dig through 200 magazines to show you!! Headers also by the way.
Found another 389 tri power build with more goodies and only 339 hp at the dyno, It's rated at 360 from the factory as we know.

I had a '68 Firebird way back when. It was BLACK, BLACK, BLACK. Full weight, stock suspension fold down back seat.
BEST it ever did was a 10.81ET. Don't remember the MPH, BUT it was pretty fast for a 400. I used to shift it at 7500RPM'S where it seemed to run the best. Of course I modified it to my taste.
Stock D-Port heads, Ram Air Rods & Pistons, Armasteel crank, & on & on.

What I forgot to mention they were Ram Air five rods, pistons & armasteel crank. Had to cut the domes on the pistons way down because without the compression would have been around 15-1. As it was was just around 12.5-1 after dome cutting.
