I was wondering if anyone has used one of these. I have one mainly because space dictates I need to run a remote filter setup but also the engine is going into a 4x4 and low rpm oil pressure is a concern. Now, I'm probbly over thinking this but as no instructions came with it I may also be wide of the mark. I do know that this cover needs a direct feed from the oil pan, no problem I've already sorted that. So oil from the pan enters via the 'In' port on the cover. It looks to me like the port which on a stock cover would feed oil into the block via the port behind the oil pressure sensor is blocked off. This means that oil flow is directed via the 'Out' connector to the remote filter, and I assume back into the block where the oil pressure sender would normally sit. If that's correct I have no problems so far. What has me confused is that the port to which the oil pick-up tube is attached is still open to the pump. So one of four things is happening here:- I've got this all wrong The billet cover is picking oil up via both the direct feed and the pick-up tube With the port from the pick-up tube open to the pump then oil is free to return to the pan without curculating through the filter or the engine. Something completely different is happening Any light on this would be gratefully received. Thanks Allan
I cannot offer any insight but I will say I have often thought a 455 and 4x4 would be a great combination. Low rpm torque for crawling and/or towing aplenty. What's it going in? JIM
Hi Thanks for both replies. @Tom Righter, I agree that this is the right way to do it, but it still leaves the pick up tube port open to the pump. Unless I'm missing something then with the pick up tube removed this would mean the pump is sucking air. @DasRottweiler, it should be going in a Defender. The 455 will be running through a switch pitch TH400 and a standard Land Rover transfer case. I fabriated the adapters a few years back and have only now got around to bolting all this together.
My scavenger set is very similar to this. Just plug the port in the block from the pickup......either freeze plug or tap with threads and plug. Make sure the oil filter is mounted higher than than the oil pump sitting in the vehilcle.........thiscway oil that drains. Ack down the line helps keep the pump primed.
No, he said he had that sorted out, but then he also asks, "The billet cover is picking oil up via both the direct feed and the pick-up tube". So I am not so sure he understands that he needs to remove the stock pick up and block off the stock opening, then run the pick up from the pan inside.
Or at least block off the stk opening up front. I was using a postons pa . Which already had an external large pickup that fed back into the pan.......so tor us it was just reroute that line, put plug in upper pan half, and plug in block behind timing cover
Thanks gents. @Bens99gtp thanks for confirming what I suspected. @LARRY70GS apologies,I fully understand that the original pick-up is removed, I just didnt make it clear. Thanks for your clarity.
I run a -12 AN line from a non-factory pick-up attached to the side of pan to the "In". I plugged the original oil feed galley behind the timing cover (drilled & tapped). Ran a -8 AN for the bypass to the fuel pump opening cover with a male -8 AN fitting. And the "out" to a remote filter housing that has a splitter for returning oil back to the motor. The splitter is used to feed front and rear of the block. Hope this helps. Note galley plugged on the picture.
@alvareracing that is a serious oiling ystem you've got going on there. I might consider a split oiling system. Thanks to everyone for the help.
