Well I pulled the trigger on a 74 Apollo and have been collecting parts to get started on this baby. Body has some dings, but the only rust issues are the trunk pan and tail panel. Still has the stock 350 2bbl not sure of the condition of the engine yet, but the odometer reads 77,000. I plan on building my own version of what I think a GSX Apollo should’ve been in 1974.
I will be keeping the A/C in this one. No A/C would be a deal breaker for my wife as well lol. If I were pulling it I would’ve helped you out for sure though.
Well I started the tail panel and trunk pan extravaganza. I was lucky enough to find a complete trunk pan. I was only able to find a partial tail panel, but it took care of the part that’s not covered up. I guess I am going to have to fabricate the rest. Shouldn’t be that big of a deal since it’s covered up on the Apollo anyways. The taillight body gaskets are toast. Any ideas on what material to make them out of and where to get it?
there is a company out there that makes weatherstripping and has a catalog of all the different shapes and styles of gaskets and stripping, but of course I can't remember the name or find the add now. I believe it has the word Steel in it, sorry. Keith
Thanks, I think I found what you are talking about, steelerubber.com. I checked out the products they have listed and it didn’t pop up. Maybe I will give them a call. I don’t think anyone reproduces them so I will likely have to just make some. I have awhile before the tail lights are going back in so I will have time to try and find some.
Believe it might be Steele Rubber Products, or something close to that. This car was in the U Pull it here, with good tail pan, but it was only in yard for short time, then crushed. Member here did purchase the rear bumper and tail lights.
Man that would’ve been perfect. I’m over here Frankensteining this thing up. It will work out it just won’t be a show quality repair, which doesn’t really bother me bc it is covered up anyways. I can always cut this one out and put a correct one in if another one turns up. At least someone got the tail lights and bumper. Also here is a pic of an apollo I have been checking in on for the past few days, it’s in your neck of the woods.
Yep the auction states it's in Albuquerque. However that car appears to need everything I don't have - front clip parts. The U Pull it car was hit hard in RF corner. i did get the parts off it that also fit the more common Chev Nova - driver's door, L side glass, trunk lid, etc. There were a few good interior bits I purchased too - visors, B pillar cover, upper seat belt covers, etc but they are pea green.
Well I finally got my 74 Apollo running, it got put on the back burner for quite awhile. Replaced the gas tank, fuel pump, cleaned the carb and lines. Still have an ignition switch issue so I just used a remote starter hooked to the solenoid and a power wire from the battery to the coil.
Hit the Apollo with a buffer. It for sure needs repainted, but it really made a huge difference. I honestly couldn’t believe the results I got from it.
