Evening everyone. Sorry about the Nats rain out. I'll be going to the Lectric Limited electronic ignition. My question is how do I wire up the new 9511 XS starter? I will seem to be one terminal short. I looked at the PM instructions & they seem to have another part for the "R" terminal. Will I need this? I know a lot of guys here have gone to newer style starters so I'm hoping to get some good info here. Thanks, Kyle
Wire the bypass wire to the S terminal along with the solenoid wire. Use a diode in the bypass wire so voltage can go only one way.
Perfect. Thanks Larry! Is the bypass the yellow wire? Is there a decent place to get a diode wire or do I need to get the $20 from PM? Kyle
Yes the bypass is yellow wire. The diode is not a wire, it’s a diode that gets wired inline, it only allows current flow in one direction.
Sorry Larry got busy with work. I know what you meant. Powermaster sells a diode wiring harness(just wire with a diode wired in) & that's what I was referring to. Kyle
Larry, on my 9511's mounting block there's a little bump. so the starter will not mount flush. I can flip it over but that will put my bolts on the block side. I believe it's a "clockable" starter. So if I take the bolts out of the center per the instructions I can just rotate my mounting block 180* correct? Kyle
I seems to be part of the mounting block. I can, but I'd rather not. It seems like it may've been installed 180* off. Kyle
$20? A diode costs less then a buck.... too bad radio shack went out of business. Do you have a micro center or a hobby shop nearby?
Well Powermaster says that is the way the "majority" of people mount them to keep them away from header heat. The bump is so that people don't mount the starter the "incorrect" way. Says I can put flat part up to block & reclock the starter to the correct direction. Kyle
Oh trust me Bill, I'm very aware of the diode cost!! They saw me coming. The only thing that concerned me was my splicing skills for a diode in an open weather & vibration crazy environment. Kyle
