Not gonna lie, one of my biggest fears for my Buicks is fire.

  3. Backfired thru carb and I panicked try putting it out with water.

I carry fire extinguishers in every vehicle. It may just stop something small.

  5. I lived it and I cried like a baby!

  6. I do now at the time I had one 50 from me but didn’t think it happened so quick.

My dad's T-Bucket caught fire with me and my buddy in it. I've never seen anyone jump out of a doorless car so fast. I had an extinguisher and was able to put it out quick.

Both my Buicks have extinguishers in the floor behind the driver's seat. Still I'm always afraid I'll park one and walk away while something is smoldering and discover it too late.

I carry one fire extinguisher between the seats behind the shifter and another in the trunk, (power lock), just in case. Jim

My insurance agent wouldn’t write a policy unless I had fire extinguishers in the car. He also “encouraged” me to put at least 2 in the garage next to the car. Been like that ever since.

    docgsx It's not a GTX

Mine started on fire while I was sitting in it in front of my rental house. Turns out it was the cigarette lighter which had so much dust and crap stored in it from over the years, it shorted out and started an electrical fire while I was sitting in it. Fortunately it was not in my garage overnight.

A big reason why I use one of those battery cut offs and use it anytime I park the car. I also carry a fire extinguisher in the car.

I've heard in a pinch stab the upper hose and shut the hood.. only works if it's hot though

I am hoping that you rebuild the car. I would be devistated by this.

If you opt to not go this route could you give me a call. I am sure we could find someone in this group that would take on the job of saving it.
    Thanks.

Do not stab the rad hose! Coolant is flammable in extreme heat situations!

I have a "Flaming River" battery disconnect, and several AMEREX halitron extinguishers handy, and in the cars.

    I hope you can rebuild.

I suggest a co2 fire extinguisher or hailon and dry chemical last since the dry chemical leaves a mess everywhere that is a pain to clean up. Another option is a big box of baking soda.

    Same. Well, almost.

Battery always gets disconnected when I park and there are 2 fire extinguishers on board.

    I can't even imagine....
