So, Renwal was the original manufacturer of all the visible kits. Renwal was based right here on LI in Mineola. When they went out, Revell bought all the molds and re-released them under the Revell name.

I think the chassis kit molds were destroyed

Why, for patent and legal reasons maby? Bummer..

Not sure how or why, but if the molds were still around they would of re-released it at some point

I think I might have a Visible V8 for parts somewhere in the depths of my basement. If anyone needs a spare part, I can try and look for it

Probably would of re re released it. Just in the 2 weeks or so I got interested i'm seeing a bidding war on just the V8 engine's. Like I said before I never knew the chassis was part of the package till you posted it.
Reading the review's on the crank driven one that I bought from Amazon, one of the issues is they have Metric screws that suppositly don't fit right and they recommend going with 2-56 nuts and bolts.
I actually found and bought a bunch of screws that someone parted from a open original V8 1960's Renwal box, not all the complete set of screws and said to have some glue on a few screws but still wanted them just in case.. Then I found the way incomplete assembled "short block" because I think it has the little DC that I posted the link up above.
I haven't started it yet but if I find some issue's I would be happy to buy some parts from you.. Thank you for offering to look!!!:)

This ended up selling for $92 and I think wasn't promised as complete..
A complete one just sold for $202:eek:
I just got a pre assembled "shortblock" that has the little DC motor. I lucked out on that one for $18 shipped.. It is missing everything else as far as the heads and push rods etc.
Also no distributor, wires or plugs nor the battery holder..
The previous builder also seemed to scotch bright the clear plastic on the inside's which made no sense??
I'm going to see if I can get my new Revel crank style motor to work with the DC motor. Having the plugs glow would be nice though but can it be done??
Jason when you get a chance do you think you can see to what V8 parts you might have around please:) I will gladly pay.

I had a idea but totally realized I cannot put my newer style crank driven model together where I live mostly now because of my "cat", she's a maniac who loves knocking things of table's.
Over 300 parts with molding rails, wires, etc. on a table is just not doable it's a cat's dream land:(
I went another route and bought 3 of these models that are mostly assembled and a couple un complete ones for the extra parts, motor's, plug wires etc.. with the hopes of putting a complete motorized one together. It seems alot of people gave up after the putting the pistons on the crank or at the short block.
Problem is your working with someone else"s modeling work with tons of glue, non secured screws and scuffed up and dirty plastic.
The biggest issue is 2 of these models have broken lifter bores.. The last kit I bought was labeled un complete, but bought it for the electric's mostly and knew from the pic's that the clear plastic parts looked very grey. I had thought someone tried to paint the clear parts it for some reason but it looks like it came that way??
Doe's anyone know if over time the clear plastic greyed or it was bad quality control from the day and was packaged like that?

Hi Jason, super long shot but just throwing it out there as I doubt you have it.
Would you happen to have a non broken early version distributor cap that works with the light bulbs or any parts at all that go with it.
The little tabs that click the cap over the distributor itself are so thin and weak from even brand new, but ad 40 or 50 years they get even more brittle.
    Thanks...buddie..

I remember well that chassis, I was all of 10 or 11 or something, back in the early 70's it was like a thousand dollars, my dad couldn't afford to buy me one:(

To be honest I don't think I would of been able to make these models at 10 or 11 years old. That chassis model is amazing though from what ive seen.
Some want $300 for a untouched V8 motor alone. Iv'e been going the cheaper route and buying already started ones and most of them were abandoned after just crank and pistons were put together or after the block "short" block. Now 40 years later alot the assembly nuts that have to be glued in are staining the plastic as the plating corroded. Nothing that bad.
Mark, wow even in the 70's the chassis was that much??
Did you watch all off that guys videos after the one you linked were it's spinning at 7500 rpm. It shows his mods and this guy has set it up and modded it just like a real motor. It has studs in the block for the heads! and he machined the crank and maby even put main and rod bearings in it!:D

The early first Renwal are the best made but it's infortunate that some of the plastic is brittle now.
The 70 Revell versions are bad, no QC. The clear plastic is grey on some, the plastic injection mold rails aren't even full and you can get 1/2 a valve or pushrod etc. Some of little grain of wheat bulbs for the spark plugs have the little tiny round tip and some don't.
I wouldn't buy this released 70's version if the box is sealed as you never know what you will get.
After it's complete its hard to see the insides but it's great build for someone who doesn't know cars to see how just a V8 works.

So I looked everywhere for my box of v8 parts. Cant find it anywhere. I did however find my original issue unbuilt renewal v8 kit in the original box.

    Thanks for looking anyways Jason;)
A unbuilt Renewal in the original box:eek:
Do you know how many real Buick parts you can get if you sell it:D

May as well of been LOL!
I got the "Visible V8" model for Christmas one year, "WOW my very own engine!!
" Ok Mark don't lose your temper and smash it 'cause it takes some time to assemble:mad:"
Tiny parts, trimming the flash, intricate gluing, HAVING TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS:mad:
Worst part for me was the plug/s wiring, the electric motor and battery box, and the brass contacts for the distributor.
When all was said and done, IT WORKED:D:D
My 1/18 scale Jaguar model wasn't so lucky:( I think it was 1/8 scale, it was at least 16" long, roll down windows, working suspension, inline 6 or mighta been a V 12.
I got pissed and smashed it, WHAT AN ASS:rolleyes:
    Anyone remember Dynaco Electronics?
They had kits, don't remember if they had more than amplifiers, but I assembled one of their amps, IT WORKED TOO:D
30 watts per channel baby, Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" sounded awesome! DSC_0333.jpg

No don't remember this Dynaco kit but no way in **ll would I been able to put it together:eek:
    Do you still have it?
Never really knew what Rhinstone Cowboy was about. I was born in MA;) Why would he need a $1 tucked in his shoe if he was rich and famous?:D Really liked the song and his amazing voice though.

At probably $100 when I was 10 yup might as well been a $1000 for that chassis..!
The battery box for the V8 is really odd and they really could of put more thought in it's design and the electric motor sticks 1/2 the time, so yes at 10 years old I probably would of smashed it after taking it and out 50 times.
The only thing i'm happy for buying 6 or 7 started and used V8 models is having extra parts such as the tiny springs which have flung out of my hand nowhere to be found after squeezing them just a little!!
They did not put ANY extra parts thats for sure, especially the tiny tiny brass distributor contact you mentioned. You lose that the whole model losses it appeal and because somewhat useless.
Not like we had a lathe back then to maby make something work but good old dad on the box had a PIPE!! in his mouth smoking around his kid and could of figured something out while making the model together LOL!
    Different times:cool:

It was actually 1/8 scale. So that was probably molded in yellow? The original issue was molded in red. The sister car was the 1/8 65 Corvette. That was molded in red at that time. Originally issued in blue. I have both kits, unbuilt

Monogram. They were re-released a few times over the years. The one you had was yellow and the box was rather plain. Mostly white. The original issue Jag had awesome box art

Interesting info..as even a upgraded metal engine to add, and as usual this guy has more short vidoes with some more facts.
There was alot of cool stuff going on back then. I just wasn't that big into models I guess to see it.
