Hello! In 2012, I saw a Boattail in the show "Supernatural" and since then I have been wanting one. I'm coming from an Import background (Own a 94 Supra and a 07 BMW 335xi) so this is my first "muscle" car. Saw this on FB Marketplace and had to go get it. I have the original title dated from 1976 and it is a one owner car. Needs some bodywork but I got the car running by cleaning the contacts and the carb. It started and idled well, but would backfire from the carb and stall out under throttle. Tried rebuilding the 1411 Edelbrock carb (Came with that and an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold) but still had the same issue. As of now, I just bought a rebuilt Rochester and am planning on installing it this week along with replacing ignition components and doing a compression test. Am looking forward to learning more about these beautiful machines and I hope to use the info from this forum to get the car up and running
That's a very nice look, glad you picked it up. It already has a quality intake underneath that carb, so I can't help but wonder if there's any other performance goodies under that intake. Do you have any other questions immediately about the car or have any plans with it?
Thank you! The owner seemed to have been an enthusiast (he passed away and I bought the car off the people who inherited it) so I am curious to see if there was anything else done. Question wise, I was just trying to figure out the whole ignition system and if I needed to upgrade to an HEI or will I be okay with the stock stuff. My other two cars are my “go fast” cars so this one I’m not too worried about making crazy power, I just want a nice smooth ride.
I think it is. I tried to look everywhere for another Riv with these colors and can’t seem to find them. I have to figure out which color I want to paint the car now!
Creme would be cool so you dont have to change the brown interior... there are hei write ups here on how to convert, but you should be good with the current set up after you understand it fully.
Yeah I gotta look into that. Still have lots to learn. I mocked up the Rochester and got the fuel line working with it, I just have to figure out the choke setup and vacuum lines etc. Anyone know if I need to hook up anything else besides the distributor line and bigger hose? There are a few capped off that I am unsure of
