So my motor made it safely across the country with me and I scored these sweet Offenhauser valve covers a few nights ago! You can buy them new, but I've been waiting to come across a set that were cheap enough to justify, and the seller was willing to work on the price.

It got me thinking, is there any other cool vintage aftermarket stuff for dressing up these motors? What about current manufacture? Pictures are always nice if available!

  2. i don't know which motor you've got, but those valve covers will also work on an Olds 215 ( i think, it is the valve train and head that's different on an Olds ) or Rover 3.5L to 4.6L

pulley systems from the Buick 6 or Rover 8 can probably be adapted as well.

I've got a 300. Well, a 345ci 300 anyway. Or soon to be. Pulley sets are a good idea, I'll have to check into those!

Yeah Jim I ended up at a place with a garage and there was room in the truck so why not? I got another quote to heat treat the heads and they wanted $350. I don't know where I read it was suppose to be cheap but I don't know if its worth it. Few kilns have readouts in degrees and are usually set by "cones" so that ended being somewhat of a dead end.

Cool valve covers, wish they made those for the 350:rolleyes:

  6. timing covers from Buick v6s and Rovers work as well. there are several different clocking positions for the oil filter depending on the cover if you're trying to fit the engine into a tight space.

i should also probably mention www.AluminumV8.com. they're Buick 215 / Rover specialists but they're well aware of the 300 and, aside from the intake, most of their parts should be applicable. they'll be able to tell which ones will or won't.

The Olds 215 cylinder heads have a different valve cover bolt pattern. Offy p/n 5188 is for the Olds 215, 5189 is for the Buick 215/300 and Rover aluminum V8s.

I'm familiar with Aluminum V8, they are who came to mind when you mentioned pulleys.

Dan, I've read some of your posts about roller cams, but I can only seem to find solid roller lifers. Do you know a source for hydrailulic roller lifters that would work for my 300?

Probably the most bling item I can think of for any Buick V8 would be a star wars air cleaner, but they are $$$!

Ah, I'm going to comb through those when I've got a few minutes. In the mean time here is some eye candy! Still needs to be cleaned but I like the look.

Those valve covers look awesome! I echo Mark's sentiments. Though the Poston 350 ones aren't bad either :D

Thanks everyone! I've honestly thought about the Star Wars air cleaner, but it seems like they are kinda huge aren't they? Anyone know the dimentions?

  16. Blackwood should know.

The Star Wars air cleaner is cool, but I feel it would take away from those cool valve covers.

It's not all that big. The air cleaner is kinda small and it is restrictive. I used holesaws on the bottom to open it up and get reasonable airflow.
