72 Skylark convertible. open diff no frame connectors. 225/70-15 tires 38lbs Normal driving, when i release the brake and press the gas, first movement the car feels like it make is, rear of the car, feels like it pushes right. Also when i hit a bump (not a pot hole) feels like the back of the car jumps right. I bought the car after a frame off resto, new quarter panels. I've never experienced this in my other Skylark that has a posi, frame connectors and 255/60-15 DragRadials. Cheers!
I run Cooper Cobras on my GS. They list 44 psi max for the same tire load as earlier tires did at lower pressures. You should use more air in today’s tires. I use 37-38 and have for 4-5 years now. No abnormal wear visible. The ride is not objectionable but the handling and gas mileage is improved over 32 psi. The car wallows at 32 psi. I like to run 85-90% of the max listed on the sidewall. I know that is not what you will read out there, but that is what John Csordas told me long ago. Some tires today are 51 psi. I had Yokohama tires on my 98 Riv and I ran them at 42-43 psi. Car rode great. I now run Cooper CS-5 tires on my Riv, they are 44 psi, I run 40. Best riding tires I have ever owned. You should experiment, you might be surprised.
I'm using BFG 255/60/15's on all four corners of my '71 350 convertible. According to the specs on tirerack.com, max. inflation is 35PSI (I haven't confirmed that with what's may be printed on the sidewall of the tire). I'm looking for the best pressure to give the most comfortable ride. Given the above, would you suggest I run them at 30 PSI? Thanks
