    a couple surprises
    not a surprise
    [IMG]
kind of a surprise (this was the white door)
    not at all
    [IMG]
    not
    [IMG]
    not
    [IMG]
    completely a surprise
    [IMG]
    not
    [IMG]
the extent was a surprise, but it's not a huge deal since I'm already there cutting
    [IMG]
    not
    [IMG]
maybe? but then again not really
    [IMG]
    nope
    [IMG]
    nope
    [IMG]
    nope
    [IMG]

that plus the rear floor.... I've ordered the front windshield channel - by the time it gets here I should have the back done

Looks like you've got some work ahead of you, but seeing some of your other welding repairs, shouldn't be much of a problem for you. Keep up the good work, thanks for posting pics etc.
I hope I don't find too much of that on my car because I'll have to pay somone to fix it since I don't do metal fab or welding.

tonight I had a couple 'extra' moments so I did some bumper unbending
    [IMG]
    there's a dent
    [IMG]
    push on the back
    [IMG]
    get creative with leverage
    [IMG]
what you can't see is the long, small rod that is the same diameter as the roll on the bumper being pushed into place
    [IMG]
    much better
    [IMG]
    as if by magic
    [IMG]

I still have to tap it into shape - but with bumpers, hammering a dent out is about the worst way you can remove it.... bumpers rarely stretch when they get a dent, but hammering stretch the metal.... then you chase waves down the bumper...tapping will happen, just not yet.... truly though, my goal is pretty straight then I'll send it off to California to be perfected and rechromed..... that said, doing this (without them having to fix whatever I'm doing) saves me money.... I figure if I had sent it with dents and missing bits it would have cost $1500 to have fixed and chromed..... the hope is it will be about $500 ....
since you folks don't know me... my 'resume' my dad owns a company that builds stainless steel kitchen equipment (tables, hoods, etc).... so for 20 plus years I did that kind of work (not my job now).... metal moving is something I know....

epoxy primer requires hitting the car with 120-180 grit scuff
    so scuff we do
    [IMG]
    dust in the air
    [IMG]
2 hours later, looks exactly the same
    [IMG]
cleaned the goop off the firewall
    [IMG]
and sanded the fenders.... hopefully tomorrow night or the night after I can get this into primer

didn't have a lot of time but taped up the little bit needing tape so I can (hopefully) shoot it tomorrow... they're forecasting rain in the afternoon which would cause some issues since I really need to shoot it outside

20 acres to the side, 100 acres to the back, 3 acres two sides.

This isn't tv where I fake being upset about 'finding issues' with my car ;). The only surprise was the gas tank door.... it was a $300 car, I'm glad as much of it is there as is there. My avatar picture is another project and I paid far more for far less with that one.... window channels are easy, panel extensions are easy, metal working the dents to a less fill intensive state takes skill but I've done lots before....

I'm getting pretty good at picking pine needles out of the primer without leaving a flaw.... when I do paint it, I'll do it in a booth.
