Thanks Larry, and yeah I’ll take a snack break of sorts. This will make the victory all the sweeter when it’s done though. As for now, I will bring out the cutter wheel and grind off a small amount of the 4 mounting spots, since I can see there is about a 1/4” difference in spacing for some of them.
Just kidding, just got shipping return labels for free from Rockauto. If they can't provide manufacturers that produce the right parts, then they can shove it up. I'll be waiting on my refund in the coming weeks as I figure out a better substitute for crappy products.
As much as I want to do this, and in fact began to wire off the paint and then test fit it again, it still wasn't enough for the drums to slide on. For what its worth, I will try again today before probably going to Craig at mobileparts.
Hey John, when I did my brakes on my 69 Riv I'm pretty sure I got everything from Napa? Everything fit perfectly.
Well John I found my reciets and low and behold I got all my brake parts from rockauto also! Maybe they've switched suppliers or something because I never had a single issue installing mine. I would still try Napa and see if they have the parts you need. Best of luck to you and just remember no matter how angry you get it's not the Riv's fault lol
The drums WILL go back on. Looking at your picture the pis are not fully seated in the wheel cylinder. Ya gotta get your hands on each side of the shoes and push em together. Like mentioned above you may have to relieve pressure on the system. Did you by chance replace the cylinders or rebuild them?
X2 The shoe on the right is sticking out a bit compared to the original setup. Since you rebuilt the system just open up the bleeder on the back of the cylinder and that will relieve the pressure. You have to bleed the system anyway because of the rebuilt cylinders. Start pushing.
So I did seat both the shoes and opened the bleeder, I should update you all with more pictures shortly, but I’m stuck on jury duty today. No matter what it still didn’t want to seat, after filing and using a mallet to seat everything. The shoes no longer stick out and it’s pretty much as tight as it will get
John, Did you try to loosen up the emergency brake cable/adjustment??? IF it was too tight it would hold the brakes open/on. Tom T.
Just a thought, Are the shoes positioned where they should be behind the spring retainer? (top post) Theres a couple of steps there that the cut out could ride up on and be held out to far. Cant tell from your pictures. Also did you do both sides at the same time? I'll do one at a time in case I have a senior moment and forget where a spring goes.
I did one side first, got proficient at putting it all back together and testing about 10 times at this point, and am good at it now. There are a couple steps on that cutout and it appears that only the stock shoes want to ride on it successfully, but I got very very close to it fitting last night.
I’m pretty awestruck. The Napa kit didn’t fit either. What is going on? Every single brake shoe looks slightly different from one another, except the used ones
