I’m looking for a clean rust free 1969 Buick Special or GS California, preferably something that’s spent it life on the west coast. I’ve lost hope of ever finding a body shop that will take the time to properly repair the rust on my first car that I’ve had since I was 12 years old, a 1969 Buick GS Colorado.

My car needs the quarters panels replaced (again) outer rear wheel houses, and core support work after a less than stellar restoration attempt by a body shop. After wasting a substantial amount of money, I’ve decided the best course of action is to swap my interior, drivetrain and GS Colorado specific components to a clean 1969 Buick Special. The car has been in pieces for two years, and it will likely stay that way until I can find a clean donor.

Car doesn’t need a drivetrain, but I’d prefer the rest to be all there. While a clean shell is preferred so I can build it to my liking, I’m also considering completed cars or survivors, as long as they are rust free. My Dads first car (71 Chevelle) is going on 15 years+ of restoration work. I don’t want to be like him and miss so many prime years I could be enjoying my first car. I’d appreciate any leads and help finding the perfect 69 Special/GS California for this project.

Found exactly what I needed. A rust free 50K mile all original 69 Special Deluxe. Thanks for your help.

I’m not sure that I will. Haven’t made that decision yet. Since the GS California/Colorado can’t be differentiated from a Special Deluxe by the VIN, I wonder if it’s worth the trouble. This one has a clean title.

It’s not like the Skylarks, where a true GS could be identified by the VIN.

Let me also add that my car first car isn’t a GS400, a GS455, GSX, Stage 1 etc. Even if given a concourse restoration back to its original state, it’s not worth a fortune. This car will never be for sale, I’m building it for me, the way I always had envisioned. I’ve already added bucket seats, a 455, 200-4R, Olds 3.91 12 bolt posi. The original engine is still on a stand. I’ve made it my own. Other than repainting this Special Deluxe Champagne Mist (my Colo GS’ original color) and transferring over my original buckskin interior, it’s going to feature my own personal touches. The GS hood, grille, emblems etc. will also be swapped over.

At the end of the day, I guess I’m in love with the car I’ve pictured building in my head all these years. How I’ve always wanted it to look and perform. I don’t think a different VIN or body tag is going to make me feel any differently about it.

Not to mention, my 69 GS Colorado, while it’s body is far from perfect and there is filler in more areas than I’d like, does have new repo quarters on it and with a paint job would make somebody who isn’t as picky as I am a great driver. Or we might just keep it as a drag car. Removing the VIN, unless I were to swap them, would render this car useless.
