About 20 years ago I had bought a 65 Electra 2dr with a 425 2x4. It had the chrome air cleaner ,finned covers I got it from a wrecking yard that was going out of business. It ran very well, and was very original inside and out. I sold it after a few months. At that time there wasn't much internet info available.
If I understand it right, they were a dealer installed option? Or did they leave the factory with the 2x4s
I always wondered if that was available on a Electra or somebody had just installed it?
Was there a code or telltale sign that say wether or not it was original to the car?

I think the dual quad 425 engines had the code "LX" stamped on the front of the block. Wild Bill Burton, Ted Nagel, Matt Menges or Walt Kilgus would know for sure. They could probably also tell you if that particular model was offered with that option from the factory.
    GUYS??

could be gotten in '64-'65-66 For'64 would have a KX for '65 would have an LX for '66 would be MZ.. If the engine was original to the car the engine number & VIN number would match.

Boy, does that bring back memories. I was with my Dad back in the late sixties looking at used cars when we happened upon a sharp '65 Electra 2dr. He pops the hood open and sees "Super Wildcat" on that big chrome air cleaner. In a matter of seconds, he drops the hood and says "efff that!". I was like, " what's the matter? " He said that engine had dual quads on it and is a gas hog and Mom really doesn't need dual quads to make it to the grocery store and back. :D
I'm pretty sure that engine would be original to the car being that it was only a few years old at the time.

I've got the Daily Production Reports at home for 65 Electra models. There were a few made with the A-8 Super Wildcat engine. What a find that would be!
I will try to update later.

In 66 wasn't the dual quad dropped from the factory at first and was offered as a dealer install first and then from the factory, or visa versa meaning dropped later in the year and then dealer installed.
When it was a dealer option only, did they also put use the 091?? cam and special distributor, or just the 2 x 4 intake.. I could see lazy dealer's not swapping cams..

NO cam swap. The factory started installing them in March of 1966 IIRC.

When they went to the factory install was it a complete package?

Yes, MZ (edited) coded block in late '66 was the factory installed dual quad 425.
According to the GSCA 401-425 Cam specs article by Dennis Manner, the 1965 425 and 1963-66 425 2x4 engines got the 109 degree cam and the 1966 425 1x4 got the 114 degree cam.

Did the 66 GS 401 Q-jet option come out the same time "which iv'e read was a late option also" with Riv's now factory produced 425 2x4?
    Same cams if i'm correct??

Let me straighten your tie a little Walt. 2 x 4 was MZ in 66: no MX. 2 x 4 was KX in 64 and LX in 65. There, that looks better.

Well, really both, but I was really originally referring to the 2x4 engine codes Cheryl listed.

The 425 LX code block that I have with minimal ware came from a loaded 65 Electra! The vin on the car matched the vin stamped
on the block ! This car had IMG_20170102_114311_hdr.jpg IMG_20170102_114349_hdr.jpg like 20 options! Dual Quad, posi!, Trumpet horns, etc!

In 1980 I bought a loaded 65 Electra 2dr hardtop black with fawn interior with power seats power windows power vent windows wonder bar radio trunk release trumpet horns LX code 425 dual quads 3.42 posi from the original owner. Sold it to a friend who swapped his 401 out of his 65 GS and put the 425 in his GS. The Electra is at a local junk yard. My friend still has his 65 GS with the 425 dual quads.

The dual quads were available on all the full size cars for `64-`65 but the mid year factory installed `66 MZ option was only available on the Riviera GS and the Wildcat GS .
