Very nice 72 Limited and LOADED. The tailpipes are tacky on a luxury car especially one this nice and the road wheels don't belong on it, but other that that it's a beauty. One of the nicest 72's that have come along in a while https://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Buick...0:g:YScAAOSwu2tccLhE:rk:1:pf:1&frcectupt=true
I agree with everything stated except the wheels comment. Why don't you think they belong on that car?? What, road wheels aren't allowed on 4drs?
So what?? They look right at home on that car and they're what make it sharper lookin' than most other 4dr Electra's out there IMHO. But hey, that's just me. I'm a road wheel junkie.
I simply stated they didn’t belong on it, one can like them or dislike them, but it doesn’t change that statement. For those of us that are purists, they don’t look right at home, they stand out as if they were painted bright orange.
Buick Road wheels were perhaps the ultimate production wheel with balance between "sporty" and "elegance". For starters, the fact that the Road Wheels were first introduced (as I recall) on-full-sized Buicks (versus the smaller, "sportier" Buicks) emphasizes Where Buick intended these wheels to be - full sized for certain. Second, the fact that the basic style of the Road Wheels was adopted to other lines of Buicks (intermediate and smaller) is quite a statement indeed. Third - related to number 2 - is the sheer length of time these wheels were in production is quite remarkable - as in three plus decades. Fact is, I am trying to think of another OEM steel sport wheel which had a production run (in years) like Buick's and I am coming up blank. Chevy might have a total number with its Rally stamped wheel and derby center cap, but not for three decades and all the models over 30+ years. Pontiac's stamped rally wheel was available basically and eventually on any of the models from big-to-small, but not for 30+ years. Olds had its Rally II's in 'the late '60's, but ditto .... not nearly as long. I am not thinking of any Ford or Chrysler comparable run, either. I think the Road Wheels look quite attractive on just about any year RWD Electra, LeSabre or Rivera .... or Estate Wagon.
While not stock, I have retro-fitted them on both my 1972 Electra 225 Custom 2dr and my 1972 Estate Wagon. They came stock on the 1972 Centurion convertible I also own. I do agree they should have been available on the Electra in '72, they were in later years. I have three sets of different wheels for the wagon, the Road Wheels, the stock full size hubcap and a set of dog dishes too. Gives a complete different look depending on which wheel is on the car.
Interesting. My Mom's brand new '73 Estate Wagon had 'em ... one of my earliest car memories riding off the Dealer's lot. I also like the 'turbine' wheel covers on the '71-'72 Rivieras.
