Firestone has announced they will be tire provider for Indy car till 2025. as part of this announcement they said A new facility will be built in Akron to make the tiers. I know it's less than 100 jobs and the Firestone brand is now owned buy Brigestone but it still seams like good news to me to have the first new plant built here in 70 years.
The days of being the home to the tire industry are gone forever and the town smells better these days. Still nice to see some link to our place in history.

Yeah, too bad American tire industry moved to China. Nice to see "something" happen. I wish an American tire company would make tires for our old cars in the popular sizes for a reasonable cost so we all don't have to buy expensive junky tires from Coker.

They are only making high end specialty tires for Indy / Formula 1 cars?? At this proposed Akron OH facility? Tried to get into a Bridgestone "research" facility in Mesa AZ a while ago - in response to a posted employment ad - it seemed to be a crony operation.

Cooper tires are still made in the U.S. of A. Unless something has changed since I last checked...

And since Cooper makes Mickey Thompson's tires, I would assume that they are made in America, too.

I never heard of Gassy's Auto parts not sure if before my time but the logo looks like the one from the store on South Main st.

They had a few stores around Akron with the logo like that. You get the pics from the Quaker Square place? They used to have a place there that had all the old stuff from then.
I am old enough to remember when the old Burghart brewery was operating on Grant st. and Flarity's potato chip company there too. Probably not spelled right..

Cooper Tiers have been my first choice for a long time. Sold them where I once worked and had few troubles with them and when you had a problem the rep. made it right every time. There stock has been a long time winner as well. When Firestone was thinking about getting out of racing the roomer mill had Copper making the tires for Indy car. Some of the under-card cars run on Cooper tires.
