I had the same sticker shock, but well worth it, especially as easily as it'll go together with the time crunch you're under. Impressive! I hope to make it to Chicago.
I had gotten the brake system (master and lines) hooked up on Thursday evening, and filled the master so it could start gravity bleeding. I was going to do a full bleed on Friday evening. Well, the lines leaked at the combination valve, so that had to come off so I could really clean out the threads and fittings. It was pretty dirty and I probably should have just taken it off to begin with. I also didn't realize that the master I installed didn't have bleeders like the original one. So off it came, and I'm now waiting on a correct master to arrive. I brought up all the stainless to start beating out the dents this afternoon. They're going to be a bit of work to get pretty again.
It came with the car. There were no tags on it other than what you see. I'm assuming Then and Now supplied it. I think that was the last place to touch the car before me.
I got a bunch done this afternoon, even though I don't have anything to show for it. Gas tank and all lines are installed. All 4 shocks installed. Removed old exhaust system in prep for the new Gardner setup. The rear end was literally just hanging in there by a couple bolts, so I finished putting that together. I started to finish the trans crossmember install, but ran out of bolts. Trying to get all of this "laying on my back" work done so I can actually stand and work again.
I unpacked the Gardner exhaust this evening and laid it out to start installing. I love how the entire pipe from the manifold to the muffler is one piece, and same for the tailpipe. I'm used to all these big 50's Buicks with 4 pieces exhaust pipes on each side The system looks really good...and appears to fit nicely when I dry fit. I have to pull the old hangers and install the new ones...looks to be pretty much plug-and-play.
I’ve done a couple Gardner jobs, 68 and 65. They went together like bread and butter. Then celebrated with a pint in the pint glass. Cheers!
They are the best no doubt. I have used Waldron for other makes & they don't compare for almost the same price.
Todd- do you have many more pics of Jason Line's restoration? I thought you only had limited pics on your web page..
I have a BUNCH of photos from Jason's restoration. Here's a direct link > https://www.diecastmusclecars.com/jasonlinebuickgs.htm Enjoy!
Tried to get a decent photo under the car...this is as good as it gets. I had a difficult time getting the two tail pipes to match each other as they come across the back side of the rear end...so it's not perfect, but it doesn't hit anywhere. I started installing all the 4 speed linkage this evening after the exhaust install. Alas, I am missing the back drive linkage...which I THOUGHT I had ordered from Inline Tube. They ended up sending me the reverse lockout linkage...but I ended up needing that as well. So not a total loss, but I wish I had known this sooner. Long story short, I am ordering the back drive linkage from them again. Let's see if they get it right this time. Chalk another screw-up to Inline. That's the second SNAFU on this car from them.
Impossible! When they left a piece out of my order 15 years ago and insisted on charging me anyway, they told me that Inline does not make mistakes.
I am in need of the blue-tabbed heater control cable in the dash. It's the only thing holding up the dash assembly. Does anyone have one floating around?
