Door handles are on, as well as all door rubber parts. Sport mirrors are on, but I have a couple little bits on them I need to knock down and buff. They can wait though. I’m on a holding pattern on the wiring harness until I get a few other things done. I have the headliner laid out on top of the car....gonna tackle it myself and see if I can’t screw it up LOL. Looks easy enough to be able to handle.

Ignore the dirty car. Once I get all of the rubber on it, I’ll roll it out and give it a proper bath to get all the tape residue and soap spots off.

    No pics today...

I have been sorting through the interior harness to make sense of things. Thankfully, I have a really crappy copy of the 72 assembly manual that includes the dash harness section. There are several branches of this harness that are not part of the reproduction one. ....like rear defroster and seat belt warning buzzer. I have to harvest those sections out of the old harness and install them back in the car. I also had to leave those sections in the floor conduit that holds the wiring going to the back of the car. There are two very important resistor wires going to the back that control low and high speed...actually it's a loop of one wire...but it doesn't matter. The wire for the defroster switch was cut right at the butt of the connector, so I had to solder the wire on to the side of the brass lug to make it work. I'm still working on the wires for the seat belt buzzer.

Trunk and headlight harnesses are in, though.

And to think we use to cut those seat belt buzzer wires with a pair of sidecuts...

    LOL

Fact of the matter is, it may not go back in. I still need to track the wires back through the old harness to see where they go.

Does anyone know if there is a quality reproduction of the assembly manual out there? I bought mine years ago from Faxon Auto Literature on ebay and it is missing many pages. And the copy is total crap on some pages. Totally illegible.

    Adam,
I have a complete 72 Assembly manual. I will get it to you. It is dated up to 3/22/72 and your car was built almost 2 months before that, so everything should be good. If it's missing anything it might be a few pages, and it's a beautiful completely legible copy.

As a matter of fact I just checked and this copy has ALL the other pages from the latest version of the assembly manual blended in. They are "blue" in my book. (so I could tell them apart) They will probably end up as darker on a copy, so this would be the complete 72 book.

The copy you have has only about 1/3rd of the sheets.

Did you get my other package yet? Let me know when you do.

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Doing a headliner by yourself will be a bear.....with plenty of cursing to be had.

I’ll be doing the headliner on Sunday.

Duane, I did get the package. Thank you! Do you need the manual back when complete? Or is it a copy?

I will try to make a copy.

    On the headliner,
If you have some extra pinch welt that you are not using, we cut pieces 2" to 3" long and used them to help hold the headliner on the sides plus front and back until it was all up. We would use one of these pieces on each section, and throw a few on the front & back. That plus the glue held it up until it was done. I never installed a headliner, but helped a bunch of times. My guys always started in the middle and worked to the front and back.

    BEAUTIFUL!!...
    Mark's link shows:
    22 to Canada
    17 Exported - including Hawaii
    5 Continental US
I think 2 went to the same US dealer, but I can't remember where.

The US cars went to different dealers.

    Duane, I was wrong..
    From Mark....
Same Dealer bought 3 of the 72 GSXs.
One of your 71 GSXs sold new at that dealer. And you had talked to the original salesman. (from 7/7/07)

After receiving my YouTube degree in installing headliners, it’s time to tackle it.

I have it stuck up there right now with no adhesive yet, so it will stretch a bit. I’ll leave it there for a while to let it relax. Once I’m ready, I’ll stick it permanently. Yes, I know there are wrinkles. I’ll work them out once I start gluing.

With your skills there's no reason your headliner won't turn out just fine. Just take your time and don't rush it.
I glued mine in sections as I moved from center to the front and rear like Duane said. Probably took three times longer then an experienced installer but it worked for me.
I found the hardest part was the sail panel area. I have some wrinkles in theses areas from inexperience, rushing or stretching to much. If I ever do another one I will definitely be paying closer attention in this area before applying glue.
Good luck, take your time and you'll be fine.

I decided to go ahead and start gluing this evening...exciting Friday night at the Martin house! Front is glued...back glue is drying.

These are horrible pictures, but it's all glued. Sometime this weekend, I will trim the excess and install the welting/windlace. There are a few little ripples in it which are from being folded for shipping. I can try steaming those out, but I think it will settle out ok.

The headliner settled out a little bit, and after I installed the shoulder belts, coat hooks, sail panel boards, courtesy lights, and sun visors, it shaped up pretty nicely. The carpet and kick panels went in today, as well. I have to redye the headliner windlace black, otherwise it would have gone on today, as well. I can't get a good shot without making it look like crap...but I uploaded a couple anyway. I have all new instrument panel bulbs coming, so once I replace those, I can start putting the dash together. I have the cluster ready, but I need to paint the ashtray and glove box door.

Thanks Shawn! Some of this is stuff I've done a million times, others I'm learning as I do it.

Today, I was off work at a decent time...so off to the garage...

Front seats, door panels, sill plates kick panel grills, front and rear headliner windlace, front and rear marker lights, roof rails and weatherstrips were installed today.

The last thing I did this evening was put all the windows all the way up so the new rubber could settle into place. It's fun poking jumper wires into the power window switch connectors to put the windows up and down:rolleyes::D

I received a reproduction front spoiler today from CARS...haven't opened it to see what it looks like, though. I'll try to take a peek tomorrow after work to make sure there aren't any surprises. That will have to wait until I get bumpers...which will be probably the week of the show. I ordered a Gardner exhaust system last week...I had no idea those were so expensive

Before anyone comments, yes, I still have to glue down the flap on the package tray. Also, I would normally install the rear panels and seat, but I am waiting on the left and right headliner windlace before I do that.
