Thanks for the post, love it, brings back so many memories.
Me and my buddies had 3 Electra's and a Wildcat between us, for some reason no one took us seriously till they got spanked.

Great story! Reminds of back in the 80s with my 69 Electra.

Well the Electra got spanked last night by a G8 GT Pontiac. Barley pulled me in 3rd and pulled him out of the hole.
I did have 4 people and he had none. However I think the G8 is a 13 flat right out of the box, so I knew he would be a challenge. Still had a blast and he was shocked at the ole boat keeping up.

Only if it were a GXP version. The GTs would have been mid to high 13s and more high than mid.

Real easy to drop a supercharger on one of those things and they are wicked.

I have seen naive guys race older rides and give them to much of a start and then get smoked. I remember at a local show they have a drag day. I went for a bit and was surprised to see a mid 60s (64?) Chevy half ton with a slightly built inline 6 race a late model subaru. I knew the suburu had him beat until he gave him a 2 second head start. That 6 spun up and the suburu guy couldnt catch him. The suburu lost by 2 car lengths. Of course everyone cheered for the pickup. The suburu driver was laughed out of racing anymore and left in shame. The Chevy driver was grinning from ear to ear and still had stock internals! Moral of the story is old doesn't always mean slow!

Yep, its fun when old iron teaches someone a lesson, nicely done!! Modern power plants are definitely efficient, but they ought not get too big of britches, might just get surprised. Ask the kid near me who had daddy's Benz out recently and got cocky. He got taken to school....

Speaking of neons, and pt cruisers, I have a 69 firebird, 455 4speed, 4.10s, runs high 11s most of the time, im at the track a lot, always running heads up, well im sitting inline at tx motorplex, talking as usual and not really paying a lot of attention, the line guy pulls me out and says hey that guy wants you, heads up and I say sure before I look, well its a black vw rabbit, I just glance at it and don't think anything about it at all, I pull to the line the rabbit pulls up, that's when I notice what looked like 10 inch wide slicks on front, tree comes down im gone 3 lengths by 60 at least, about a 1000 foot, that little black rabbit shot past me like a Saturn missile, ran a high ten at like 125-130 mph, DAMN, now normally im at the track alone, but this nite all my pals or there, so to this day all I hear is about the Rabbit!!!!

And this is why I want more than just a little power in the Riv. "It shouldn't be able to move that fast, but it does" is where I want to be in several years
