Alright you old farts that have an 8 track player in your car, or house. Oh gosh, seriously, you have one in your house? I had one back in the the 70's. I have some for sale for the low, low price of, well you know... free. They're old. Maybe to old for you. They were my buddy's dad's 8 tracks. Here we go.... Wait, I need a drink.
    1. Tommy Dorsey: "Dedicated to you" circa 1976 Tape rolls easily with my finger.
Man that's a good drink! My wife's gonna be mad I finished her Southern Comfort!
    2. It's a weird one.... I Love Adventure with Jack, Doc, and Reggie. Circa 1974 From reading the label it seems like a "story?" Rolls so so IMO.
    3. Eddy Arnold, "Welcome to my World", No date, but a lot of songs on it! Rolls real good.
    4. Count Basie, "Basie's Best", Rolls good, no date
    5. Barbara Streisand, "A Christmas Album." Rolls OK, No date, looks very good!
    6. The Legendary Glenn Miller, "Glenn Miller and his Orchestra Vol. 5"
    7. Frank Sinatra: This Love of Mine." Rolls very good. No date
    8. The Best of Glenn Miller Vol. 3. Rolls OK. No date
    9. Tommy Dorsey: "Dedicated to You" Circa 1976 Rolls good
    10. The weird one is.... probably trash, "MEMOREX45 record-able tape with Glenn Miller "Archive Collection"
    Rolls OK

So how do I do this? I'm going to BG. I will not ship, but deliver in person at BG, or they go in the trash. Let me know what you want.

Jim Rodgers was looking for some year, not sure if these are his taste though. If no one claims them ahead of time, set up a box in the pits (yours, ours, someone’s trailer) with a big ‘FREE’ sign.

John, What?!! No Grand Funk,Iron Butterfly,Black Sabbath,Doors,CCR,Deep Purple or Hendrix? Heh heh

Yep, I remember scoring a huge garage sale box of 8 tracks of some serious jam back in the 1980’s.

I took the very best of them, tightened my sun visor screws and stored my favorite tapes up there on both sides.

Was a killer idea till I came out of the 7-11 gas station one night all sideways to chase down a Camero,I wanted to put on a lil show at the same time so I decided to come out of the tire boiling sideways roll and wag the rear end around for some nice squiggly posi tracs to show off to my buddies the next day.
All seemed like a great idea till I threw it sideways the other direction and helplessly watched ALL the best 8 tracks fly out the windows and turn into 8 track tumble weeds:eek:!
Posi tracks & 8 tracks dumb dumb dumb but can laugh about it now(kinda):D
I actually like big band music too but doubt I will make BG

Loved your story John!!! The good ole days! I remember sticking a pack of matches squeezed in on top to make them play right. And when they finally quit working we'd make 8 track spaghetti out the window with them.

Somewhere in Lake Lanier (Gainesville, Ga) under the Mt. Vernon Rd. bridge is an under dash 8 track player that WAS in my brother’s ‘76 Monte Carlo. One day no combination of matches/matchbook/etc would play right, so ‘kick kick grab snatch fling!’ out it went. (There’s also a gold mine of class rings, gold chains and watches down there-that was the swimming bridge before school then, too!).

Man I had quite a few 8 tracks all 70s and 80s rock when cassette took over I gave it all to a buddy at least 50 of them and a home steto player too. I still do have a buick 8 track deck but see no reason to clutter the gs with it.

The Christmas of 1974, my parents got me an 8 track player, 2 speakers, and 2 tapes. Grand Funk Railroad and Led Zepplin. I was terribly sick with the Flu. My Dad brought a car battery into my room along with a battery charger and I "rocked" myself to sleep!

Believe it or not, I have an eight track RECORDER for a home unit. Now THAT is from back in the day... (I've never heard of blank 8-track tapes though. Anyone?

I live two miles from there. Might be time to buy some scuba gear. :)

Did you grow up in these parts?

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

I have a case full of 8tracks out in my shop. Probably junk now from sitting for years. I still remember 'fishing' them out of the player when they got bound up.

BYoung-we chatted a while back, your wife and I both went to North Hall High, she remembered my brother. But yes, I grew up in Big Oak Estates off Price Road.

Steve, I remember blank 8 tracks, or you could do like my brother-he’d break the tabs out on gifted tapes he didn’t like (Bay City Rollers, Joan Baez) and record over them.

I've got some of those rare 8 tracks like the Doors, Iron Butterfly, and Black Sabbath. This last summer my 8 track player decided to make some quick work of the Stones "sticky fingers" tape. Before that it ate a "British Gold" album, I guess it didn't like the idea of ferrying across the Mersey.
So with the Stones one. I figured it was worth trying to salvage it, so I tried to pull it out of the player, - no dice, it's not moving. Grabbing a screwdriver at the next light, I start trying to fish it out. The damn thing shattered in my hands and gave me a wicked cut. The light changed, had to get moving, and I'm bleeding. It left the car in a hurry after that, leaving a tumbleweed of tape on someone's lawn. Triggered a flashback to the Seventies since that was about the last time I saw something like that. My Sandalwood upholstery is starting to look like a flipping abattoir as I tried to fish a Kleenex out of the accessory Kleenex box. Here I learned 2 things; Kleenex doesn't respond well to age and sunlight, and the modern metric box is too narrow for the old fashioned standard measurement holder. I yanked on a kleenex, the thing ripped, the box slid out of the tabs, and the glue had failed on the side of the box, dumping kleenex everywhere. Of course, it was warm so windows and top were down, next thing I know I'm sitting in amongst a tornado of Kleenex. I managed to catch a few with blood flying everywhere. The car interior looks like a crime scene. Cursing, I toss the remnants of the box, more shrapnel, and the old 1980's vintage wedge made from an old cigarette pack.
Then I plugged in the MP3 player and tuned the radio, - that was that, no more 8 tracks. I think I might have severed a nerve...

I have a whole bunch of 8 track tapes. I had a Panasonic 8 track player/recorder for about 10 years (1974-84) when it failed. Also had an 8 track player attached to my Marantz 2270 until the player failed 3 years ago (never replaced). I do have an 8 track player in m7 '72 GS. I also have one of those portable Panasonic 8 track players.
I have repaired many 8 track tapes. Usually the pads deteriorate over time & the tape that joins the tape ends fails.
I would like to get my hands on a 1972 Buick 8 track tape that came with a new Buick.
I remember when I purchased a new 1981 Cutlass Supreme, that u could order an am/fm cassette radio or am/f/ 8 track radio combo. I believe that 1981 was the last year for 8 track from GM.

My parents ordered a Coupe deVille in ‘82, I’m pretty sure the 8 track player was still on the option list.

I'd love to find a 8-track to cassette converter. I had one before for this particular player and it did work well. I was actually pumping CDs through it too.

I still have one-it came with a ‘78 Coupe deVille I had, and I think I did what you did-plugged the fake casette into a portable disc player, then put the fake cassette into the 8 track adapter, and plugged that into the Caddy’s stereo?
