Any help greatly appreciated. Was driving my car and no problems with the brakes. Pulled in garage and when I started it up again I noticed the brake light stayed on. Checked fluid and fuse and both are good and emergency brake isn’t depressed. No wires noticed on the master cylinder or proportion valve. Am I missing something here, where else should I be looking? Thanks Ed
I vote for emergency brake switch. It's a ground operation switch so disconnecting is a quick test. If light goes out it's the switch. Could also be a ground short or bad proportioning valve switch. A more serious cause would be a loss of pressure on either front or rear hydraulics causing the proportioning valve to move all one way disabling the leaking end and maintaining pressure for the other. This operates the switch mounted on the top of the valve. Here's hoping for a simple fix Bob
I may be wrong but I don't think 66 has a proportioning valve and/or switch---just a distribution block. If that's the case then problem is the emergency (parking) brake switch that Bob mentioned first.
Pull the emergency brake release and with your foot lift up on the emergency brake pedal. I had one Buick I alwats had to do that to to get the light out
More than likely a BAD brake light switch or the switch needs adjustment. Located just above the brake pedal. Dis-connect one wire to see if the lights now go out.
66 does not have the valve, did not know this initially. Was all over the engine bay taking pics to see if I missed it.
It’s the brake light. How are you feeling, last time I contacted you for my distributor you were down and out!
