Looks like the car may have started out life in a different color. The screws holding on the bottom trim is a nice touch. Blue engine??
Most likely rebuilt engine by a non-Buick aficionado. Painted it the later corporate GM blue instead of the correct shade of red.
Agree, the face and tail were better executed on the 69 and the higher mounted ventiports on the 69 worked better as well .
So what does the seller mean by "won't last long"...is he expecting it to fall apart? And how did you figure the car started life in a different colour; - "butternut yellow" was on the list for 1970. The motor could be a post 75 transplant; that was actually fairly common to have happen in the cooler climates, Buick engines would tear oil pumps apart in extremely cold weather and fail prematurely. We used to swap out a lot of 430s and early 455s that had oiling issues in the late 70s for post 75 engines out of fresher wrecks at the garage I worked at back then. Not to mention, the post 75 engines worked better on the crappy gas that was available in those days. The high compression engines would pound themselves to death on weak regular unleaded. Anyway, it's a pretty car and the price is within range; - it's the last year for Electra convertibles too, so that has to account for something.
If you expand the pics and look close you can see especially around the trunk area gold or tan, looking at the pics close, the paint job is terrible. Transplanted then or transplanted recently it's still a transplant and hurts the value. It is WAY overprices for what I believe the condition to actually be. You really think a car with a fender skirt that doesn't come close to matching up, trim held on with screws, overspray all over the place, and the list continues is really worth $17K wow, I gotta start finding some rats and selling them to you. Oh, you did notice the duct tape holding the side of the front seat together, right? $17K will buy you an extremely clean Buick convertible of this vintage(in real world sales, not classic car dealer markup and pipe dreams)
OK V-8 Buick People: First, i love a 70 Electra convert. Next? The price might great for someone who made some easy money in a poker game. And....dig those ankle cutters! Mitch
I guess I'm going to have to take a closer look then...I wasn't able to magnify all the pictures up to see what you're seeing. Just goes to show that the best way to look at a car is to actually go up and look at it in person and not on a computer screen.
