upload_2018-4-18_7-59-12.jpeg something like this. Does not have to be Honda. The Kohler twin on the stump grinder I've been using started knocking yesterday. Rather than keep running it until it locks up I'm going to replace it. Still have around 20 stumps to get rid of. needs to be a 1 inch output shaft.

I know people like the “cheap” harbor freight engines. They do make a 22hp horizontal shaft engine for around $750.

Thought I saw a coupon for that one recently. It is probably at home. If you can wait until later, I can check. Won't be home until about 5p cst.

I bought the thing yesterday. Spent the day making it fit the application. got it started, ran for a few mins. shut down to make some adjustments now it wont start. no spark. theres a breaker on the control panel that seems to be tripped and wont reset. been on hold waiting for tech support for close to 30 mins. " Just stay on the line and well get to you as soon as possible" " Your call is very important to us"

    Well, that sucks.

Not going to help you now in your current situation, but the general consensus with any of the harbor freight motors/generators is to replace the chineseum spark plugs with a quality one, like an NGK. But in your case, you've gotta have spark first. Hmmm. Hope you get it figured out.

On a follow-up to my coupon quest, I didn't have one for the horizontal shaft motor, but I do have one for the vertical shaft version for $599, good thru 5/31/18.

If anyone wants it, I could post up a picture of the coupon.

Is HF replacing this engine for you or did you get it running?

They replaced it no questions asked. They had to make sure it had no gas or oil in it before they would except it. Lady opens the box and starts looking around for the gas tank. Its externally fed. no tank. try to explain that to her and she dont understand. Next she takes off the cap on the valve cover to see if there's oil in it. Again try to explain I drained out the oil from the drain plug in the bottom and also drained the screw on filter.Pulled the dip stick and showed her it was dry. Shes still looking down in the valve cover. I just gave up, signed the receipt and left with a new engine.

Spent about 20 mins bolting on the new one and connecting fuel line ,filling with the same oil i removed from the old one, battery, drive pulley and belt. Fired it right up and went to work. Runs like champ. does not need more the 1/2 throttle to work as well as the old engine did.
