Is there any production data available on the 1970 model year GS showing the number of cars built by color option? I was wondering what the top five color choices were coming from the factory. Thanks.
Of the 20,096 total GS production for 1970 here are the top 10: 1) Burnished Saddle - 2714 2) Bamboo Cream - 2269 3) Diplomat Blue - 1769 4) Sherwood Green - 1713 5) Fire Red - 1707 6) Harvest Gold - 1415 7) Glacier/Apollo White - 1400 8) Silver Mist - 1297 9) Seamist Green - 1183 10) Coronet Gold - 1003 So, the top 10 colors accounted for 16,470 cars.
My original color was bamboo cream and I very much dislike it. Surprised to see how popular it was back then!
I'm trying to figure out how many black hardtop stage ones were produce versus triple black with a vinyl top is there any breakdown on file.

No breakdown by specific paint color with vinyl top. We know how many Fire Red or Regal Black cars were produced, and we know how many cars were produced with black vinyl tops, but we don't know how many had both. We also don't know how many of the Fire Red or Regal Black cars were Stage 1's, and how many were GS455's w/o the stage 1 option. You can extrapolate and make a numerical guess at it, but it is still just a guess.
To some extent asking how many of this color or that were made is the wrong question nearly 50 years later. Probably 90% more or less don't exist anymore. I prefer to look at the Stage 1 registry. Disagree. There's no way to know how many exist, but we know how many were built. That's what we go by when we judge a car.
I did the math. Why? because this stuff occupies too much brain space and it has to get out of there somehow. So, assuming the 'take rate" for specific Stage 1 colors was the same as non-stage cars, the percentages of Stage 1 cars with each color should be something like this: Theoretical number of Stage 1 cars with each color is shown in the rightmost column. Split between convertible and hardtop could be estimated but that's just a guess on top of another guess. So potentially, my Sherwood Green Stage 1 is one of 240 cars built that way in 1970. It's kind of shocking 50 years later how many green and brown cars there were.
Stacey, they only made 232 stage 1 converts, not 1119, I think you are missing the column that would total to the 232, like you have with the coupes.
