You “set the pinion and backlash”. Did you run a pattern with compound. I do NOT trust any numbers scribed onto the gears. They are merely just a starting point.

Briz, sometimes you can have your belts recirtified for a fration of the cost if new.

Want to talk about a rip off, bought a use jw flex plate, by the part number it should had been externally weighted, we'll it had been removed. So 13 bucks to ship it down, almost 60 to get reweighted, they asked if I wanted it to be recirtified. ........at the cost of 80 bucks for a sticker..........seeing I have yet to have anyone ever look, I passed. What cost me 13 to ship down was 25 to ship back......WTF........then when I get it back the corner of the new weight extended about halfway over one of the converter holes I need to use. Call back down, they said yeah we noticed that but the weight had to be right there. I asked well it couldn't had been right there when you made it cause you pit the whole there orginally. This weight is a lot longer than any other weight I had ever seen on a Buick b4.

I'm like so you knew it covered the hole you could just drill me a new set of holes......was told they are not allowed to do that.

So upside down goes a crank, on goes the plate, the the converter spin to find good metal, mark, drill new wholes, pray it's not out if balance too far........good news is its a new assembly and need balanced any ways.

But Jw is supposed to be a good name......I wouldn't think after paying them to fix it, I still had to fix it and they even admitted they knew what they did caused a potential issue. If my conveyer had the large pattern it wouldn't had mattered

    Ben,
I’ve had that issue with a few converters hitting the corner of the weight on the flexplate, even on stock flexplates. In a pinch,I just carefully nipped the corner of the weight off, enough to clear the converter lug. You now see some converter companies offering a Chevy converter, and a BOP converter, and it was for reasons like this.

Dial indicator and "feel". Its a drag car. A little bit of wear over hundreds of passes is not going to hurt anything. The 4.56 didnt show any after 2 years.

Finally got it out yesterday after all the repairs and up grades. Have to say I was mildly surprised. Fully expected her to run just a bit slower overall after the gear change but have more gear left over at the top end. Her best last night was a 6.479 with a 1.40 60' @ 105 mph. I know the air had something to do with it as it was about as good as it gets down here. The DA was 650 700' and 23 grains of water. Temp was 66 - 69 all day. The best run was around 8pm. Unfortunately I had a dial in of 6.48. Prior to yesterday the best time was 6.63 @ 102mph

The only time of the year we dont have atrack open is christmas day, new years day, the weekend they do the points banquet and the 2 weeks on either said of the Gator Nationals. I went from the 4.56 down to the 4.11 gear. In a couple of weeks Im gonna try my hand at he 6.50 index class. They will also run open comp at that event so I'll deff do that.

Crazy how you went down gears and picked up in the 1/8th. Was most of the gains in the 60 ft or evenly spread out

It is not crazy...Combinations are EVERYTHING!
the gear made the converter flash high so it could hit at a higher RPM probably if he got a better 60 foot... Plus the car probably pulled in a better RPM range longer than blowing past the power band etc.

It is all math and traction etc.
