Hi, Lots of people seem to like the Crane over pertronix. I see the part umber to order for chevy, pontiac and old, but not for buick. which one are you buick guys using? my application is a 70 gs455? Hvramesq
crane has had more problems then pertonix in last few i bought. crane is fast now owned by comp cams. directions and tech help both say different when you ask if you need 12 volts or need to run a ballast.
Got to love getting different answers.....I called comp once just to see, I called 4 times back to back to back to back. Talked to 4 different ppl got 4 different answers........makes it tuff to believe help like that.
this is probably a good issue for a Poll on the board to see if a larger sample size gets us in the approximate 33/33/33 range I feel we are in now with pertronix, lectric and crane.
I have run Pertronix in my cars for over 20 years - never an issue. They require a full 12 volts, so the resistor wire has to go. Current set up is a Pertronix III and matching coil.
I have the Crane XR-I, very easy install, no issues. only been running it about four years now but I like it.
I have run the Crane XR-I for a couple of years now and I learned it hates low voltage! Bypass any resistors and it works flawless.
Same crap with pertronix, works fine till your battery gets the least bit drained from a stereo or whatever. Then you best carry a jump pack. I wish I could find an aftermarket dist that fit under my GS 455 air cleaner
Have the pertronix ignitor and coil for like 15 years in my 65 no issues. Also converted to the 1 wire alternator from a regal.
Ive put Pertronix in some of my cars. Its a points replacement. Works with the resistor wire just fine. Most people tht work for these companies dont actually know anything about the product they sell. I usually have to educate them on thier product
