Has anyone reconditioned the insides of the 70 Skylark/GS tail light housings? The reflective sliver paint is peeling off,and I would like to have them redone.

Doesn't Eastwood sell the correct reflective paint for them?

I've always used the Brite Aluminum or chrome spray paint, but yes Eastwood has a product, beadblast them , adhesion promoter then spray away

I’ve seen all the Eastwood stuff. Just curious how well it will stick to non-metal surface. Those are some type of nylon/plastic.

I, too, used the aluminum paint. worked fine and no peeling.

Go buy some adhesion promoter at AutoZone if you want some added insurance.

I did mine decades ago with Krylon Chrome-aluminum paint. Worked great; has held up; and we get 100 degrees here all summer.

I just used the Krylon Chrome paint and it came out perfect!

What’s the best way to remove the leftover paint that isn’t flaking off? Soda-blast? Something that doesn’t distort the plastic.

Bead blast just turn the psi down

Mine were in good shape, so I scuffed and painted over. I would do the same, bead blasting at any psi would worry me.......

Are we talking about the silver edge?

No, the actual housings behind the lenses where the bulbs go. The factory had a reflective coating on the inside to make the light brighter

Which paint should I use for the silver, outside edge of the lens?

I just used a scotch bright to clean them up good and then painted them with a rustolium chrome paint and then put a coat of clear with a little sparkle. It really made a difference on how bright the lights were when I was done. Here is pics of what they looked like before and after.

    Nice work, Ryan!

This is a great weekend project that I'll have to add to the list.

Any tips for polishing the tail lenses?

Brett I have always just cleaned the lenses really well but I think you can buy a plastic polish. I have done this with a few of my cars over the years and I am always impressed with how much brighter the lights are when done.

Found the cans I used in the garage.
Note the first one is for plastic.
