Looking for something that has a little shorter track width so I can run a wider rear wheel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated swap wise. Been looking at 12 bolts, but theyre pretty spendy & not in the budget right now.

I put a 64 special rear in my 67 gs ragtop.
It tucked the wheels under approx half an inch on each side of the car.
Ita still a 8.2 with bolt in axles.
Ive heard 65 are narrow also but cant verify.
I have a 66 parts skylark and its same width as my 67. 66 to 67 12 bolt chevelles are supposidly narrower also. 1968 12 bolt is same width as ur stock 67 and i can verify that cause i have a 68 12 bolt in my 67 coupe.

    I had to edit the title. Mines a 66', I had a 67' a few years ago before I got the 66'.

Do you have any good fenders you'd part with? I'm going to be doing a repaint this spring after I get my LS swap wrapped up.

A 64-65 rear is 5/8” narrower on each side.

That would be perfect! Now If I could just find 1 near Ohio.

You don’t neccessarily need a narrower rear to get a wider wheel. Crawl under there and see how much clearance you have on the backside, between the sidewall of the tire and the nearest point of contact(frame rail or wheel house.) This will tell you how much more backspace a wheel can have, with your existing rear. Then look at the clearance on the frontside. You should be able to achieve everything you want with the correct wheel, and leave the rearend alone.

Brian u are correct! My issue was the wheel i selected didn't come in deep enough back spacing so i ended up gently trimming fender lip. But then i built another rear a 64 housing with a 3.55 and posi to replace the pegleg 2.9x stk rear. This allows me a wider tire choice now too.The narrow housing alows a deeper outside wheel lip and imo looks better on muscle cars.

I picked up some wheels for mock up today. I'll post pics later when I get home.

    I put a 71-72 skylark 8.5 10 bolt under my 67 gs.
I then had my 15" Buick rally wheels cut behind the flange and had 1 inch spacers
welded in using a wheel lathe fixture.
Good tire clearance and 8 inch Buick rallies!

I still have one set of 8.5 30 spline Moser custom shorter axles for some one who wants to narrow a 10 bolt 8.5 71 72 housing. I have not had much time to get narrow one just been busy doing stock orders...
just an option I will throw out there for you. :) Jim
