I just joined the forum today, looks like a lot of info floating around here. I'm trying to get some info on '64-'70 Buick's, not real familiar with which model's were a GS version or just a standard version. Actually, I'm trying to get some input on value/worth of '66 Skylark I like the look of but not real sure where to get some input, thought this might be the place. I know where to find Chevy info.. The fact that the white 66 has a hole cut in the roof for a sunroof, in my eyes devalues the car greatly.
I agree-subtract the substantial cost of repair from the value of an otherwise very nice car. Patrick
Lets not lose track of his question -- value? Drew did not suggest he needed a 100% original car to be happy and that could be said of many buyers. So assuming Drew accepts the Sunroof -- and accepts some loss of originality, what's a fair street price in AZ?? I'm no Skylark guy...but the longer it sits on Craiglist the less it's worth.
Drew -- just looked at Hagerty. Seems like it is worth between 8 and 12K -- depending on condition. You do have to ding it for the sunroof as the "pitch" for the car is it's "original". In general, I would suggest that Hagerty's numbers are optimistic for Buicks as they are not in demand. So even if the car is worth what Hagerty suggests, sellers can't find enough interested buyers. If you want to wait 2 years... you might get their number ;-) In addition, Buick parts are harder to find as many are not reproduced like Chevy or Mopar. Go pull up the JEGS catalog for that car and see what comes up for parts... likely a fraction of the choices for a more popular car. That means R&R is more money. So when the buyer says "oh it just needs an X or Y fixed...no big deal" start deducting real $$ from the price. The AC could be one such example...It also means you want to put extra effort into checking condition and you might have to prove to the seller how much some of those repairs really cost. I hope someone smarter than I weighs in...
I don't see this Skylark being worth the asking price. Plain white & the sunroof & incorrect interior knock it down even more. If the body & drivetrain are solid I think this one is worth $6,000 -$7,000 IMO
If you got his # call. CL post only last a while then delete/expire. I'm curious to know why you want to know the value of the car is it because you want to resell it or is it because you don't want to overpay for it. Are you looking for a hardtop, post, sedan, or wagon
Ronnie, it was an overpay question, I'm not a car flip guy. I'm mostly a Chevy guy, Nova, Chevelle and Monte Carlo (1st Gen) so just not all that familiar with Buick's and what they should be going for. My wife has the fond Buick memories and we both like hard tops. I think his number went away with the ad, I never did contact him.
Not going to argue with the thinking, if she likes it, easier to spend the money with much fewer questions. This is the car she really likes, it's a '65 GS, but that's about all I can get out of her and this is the only pic we have of the car. This was taken in the mid-80's. So is it just a 'GS' or is a '---- GS'. I don't know my Buicks. Thanks.
GS is to Buick what SS is to Chevy, IE a "sport" package added onto an existing model. the car in the pick is most definitely a '65 Special/Skylark/GS. The lack of badges kind of toss the answer up in the air, but its a '65 Buick A-body for sure. A GS would say GrandSport on the sail panel in '65 and on the Q/panel if it was a convertible. A done up a body GS is gonna be in the upper teens even in the 20's . A non GS done up in the same manner =6-13k. A good roller GS 5-10k . A good non GS roller will be 3-5k. Give or take a few hundred. Plus don't forget to account I could be all wrong lol. Location matters too, I would travel far just to get a good price from a good state (price competitive and non rust). All GS's have a boxed frame. Stronger.. Only Buick did this to all their GS models. Makes sure it wasent race to bad like at the drags.. And some body will chime in if I'm wrong if all 64-67 GS's came with a factory boxed frame. Gotta love BUICK
back in '65 it was a GranSport, which was a package on the Skylark. I think it was '67 when it officially became its own model with distinct VIN but I may be wrong on the year change
