I don't understand the need for random violence. The news is sickening and depressing. Pray for all of those involved. Pray for our Country.

Big news.. let's keep this non political folks.. non racist, non offensive. this was a crazy guy, and they come in all shapes, sizes, colors and religions.

The challenge is how do you prevent this?.. Nearly every gun can be concealed in a suitcase or golf bag... and some nut is going to see this and try it again.

I don't think you can prevent the gun or the nut... have to go to limiting the targets.

It's sad that we have come to this, in this country.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

Just terrible. Shameful that there's getting to be more 'people' that lives matter not to them, human or animal lives. All they care about are their own agendas.
Prayers for all those victims and their loved ones.

I too am very saddened by this. It’s very troubling that it appears impossible to prevent. I am curious- do the windows open, did he break one, or shoot through a vent? Also it sounds like his weapon was full auto. I presume he converted a semi auto but would like to know for sure.

It appears that this was very well planned.. 8 guns, two shooting platforms, shooting at a crowd of 20K plus people from a range of about 300 yards, from an elevated position. That equals a flat trajectory field of fire, and is why we are seeing the high death and injury counts.

He knew what he was doing, and exactly how to be successful at it. This was not some random guy that got hassled one to many times by the authorities.

This guy was much more evil than that.

Over the next few days we will see the experts attempt to make some sense out of this. Blame will be placed everywhere.

But the simple fact of the matter is that this person was insane, because you have to be to want to kill that many innocent people.

Prohibiting such easy access to weapons readily capable to being converted to automatic mode with large magazines is the way to retard this. Before someone says there is a 2nd amendment right to have these weapons, they are mistaken about the law. How about a nuclear tipped rocket launcher? I have seen people argue those are not legally capable of being limited either, but they too are mistaken from a legal point of view.

Define weapons. Knifes, forks, cars, trucks, bats, fists, clubs, guns, bows, explosives, swords, and on and on and on.

Evil people will find any way to do evil acts. Think maybe we should find a way to find these evil persons before they do evil acts?

    Be alert to your surroundings.

What were the other firearms? It appears, based upon his choices of room, date (festival weekend), day (third night, biggest crowd, two days to observe), that it was planned to occur exactly as it did. Were the other weapons ‘contingency plans’? Again, I want to know how he obtained (or converted to) a full auto, because that seems to be the only law broken until he opened fire. Preventing or mitigating this in the future may hinge on that (as flynbuick said). I’m not hopeful that we can stop evil with laws, though.

That is the same old tired argument you always hear from those who want no restrictions on firearms. The statistics reveal the truth:

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-u-s-gun-deaths-compare-to-other-countries/

"Americans are 10 times more likely to be killed by guns than people in other developed countries, a new study finds.

Compared to 22 other high-income nations, the United States' gun-related murder rate is 25 times higher. And, even though the United States' suicide rate is similar to other countries, the nation's gun-related suicide rate is eight times higher than other high-income countries, researchers said.

The study was published online Feb. 1 in The American Journal of Medicine.

"Overall, our results show that the U.S., which has the most firearms per capita in the world, suffers disproportionately from firearms compared with other high-income countries," said study author Erin Grinshteyn, an assistant professor at the School of Community Health Science at the University of Nevada-Reno. "These results are consistent with the hypothesis that our firearms are killing us rather than protecting us," she said in a journal news release."

Here is a good chart laying out the statistics relative to other countries:

Fair enough Jim, I accept your argument.

Now, let's talk reality, not liberal fantasy.

The guns are out there. Passing laws against them will only drive the black market to a frenzy.

You would have to institute a tightly controlled totalitarian society for laws to have any real effect.

You will not limit access.. too late for that.

The rest of the world passed those laws 70 plus years ago, or longer.

They are NOT a solution for us.

There are already restrictions on firearms Jim. That was my point, this evil man found a way past the law...they always will.

Apparently, you are not familiar with the adjustments that Australia made after many years operating like the USA and their success:

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...ss-20-years-after-mass-shooting-idUSKCN0XP0HG

If they can do it, we could too.

Also, this is not an issue so easily assigned a liberal or conservative label. It is an issue of law and order.

It would be interesting to find a chart that listed homicides per 100,00 people in the developed World period.

    I'll try.

STAGE III Lost Experimental 455-4 Bolt Main Block.

This was a heartbreaking and disgusting murderous act comitted by a cowardly & demeanted or pure cold blooded man.

We might never know the reason behind this but regardless that will never bring back the loss of innocent lives or the horror those involved will carry for the rest of their lives.

We live in a society these days with a media that drowns us in massive doses of bad news rather than Gods good news. I am not saying this explains the shooters reasoning or anyway justifies such an evil and premendatated carnage.

Just another mournful reminder of how far morals have degenerated since most of us were young.

My prayers for those trying to grasp reasoning for this senseless act, for those who were lost or are struggling for their lives at this very moment & the shocked loved ones who all need our prayers and ultimately the peace that only God can offer. This was the act of a lost and hopeless man who wanted to impart his pain on innocents.

Lord, I pray for our country and innocents everywhere who are felled by those who choose evil over your mercy, grace and love.

If you look an undeveloped countries like some in Central America, it is much higher than the US. This is due to gangs, drugs, guns available, weak law enforcement, etc.

I am not sure that changing gun laws,or making gasoline unavailable,or any other product that could be used to kill a lot of people would change anything. These people are sick and crazy and will always find ways to act out on their starvation for pain against others. I think the scariest part is how we overexamine them rather than exterminating the problem. Another scary issue today is how I am first reading about this on v8buick....the entertainment media has been focused on how they can use the weather to belittle the current administration this week and I heard absolutely nothing about this while in Florida on the news. Keeping it Buick related....I think I will make sure my tank has still got gas in it just in case I need it to defend myself.

    Australia?

Again, in a country of 320+ million free people, you simply cannot pass a law and have any real effect. The smaller the group your legislating gets, the more effective it will be... hence the limited success seen in a country of 24 million.

I would strongly suggest that without limiting the freedom of movement, of speech, of gathering and travel, you will not legislate this issue away. Only when you do that, can you have an impact in a free country of this size, and with our history.

Are you ready to give those away too?

If anything, legislation drives the crazies to action..

I say we play soothing music to the nutjobs, while we hunt them down, one by one... Pour the money and resources wasted on more useless legislation, into the human intelligence and manpower to do that hunting..

The argument for gun control baffles me.

I ran over a nail the other day... got a flat.

Is it the fault of the government, for not controlling the size of the nails made, the quantity allowed in the box, or who could purchase them?

Or is it the fault of the careless jerk that threw it in the back of his pickup truck, so it would fly out on the road.

Can real results only be seen by confiscating the billions of nails, or would using those resources have better results if we use them to prevent people from misusing them?

I would argue the latter. Two different points of view. What is the truth?

Probably some combination of both of them.

A position we can no longer take in this country, lest you be called "unpatriotic" from one side, Or "stupid" from the other.

I do know one thing for certain. We won't solve this argument here, and prolonging it will simply pit Buick guys against each other.

There are plenty of websites to go to, to argue a million politically charged topics.

Lets move away from it, before it gets out of hand.
