I just installed a 425 in my '64 Skylark with all GS parts. I had some starting issues and gaining access to the starter required loosening of the exhaust manifold. I solved the problem but my question now is what to do if either the starter or manifold actually would have to be removed. It looks impossible and the factory manuals don't say anything about it. Suggestions?

Best bet is to install one of the high torque mini starters, saves a lot of time down the road and they work great too.

That's the idea. I just found an old post that explained the process. Most responses said to pull the motor mount bolt and the exhaust manifold bolts and jack up the engine. I was afraid of that but at least I know. Thanks.

I am the originator of the "Mini's" & have them in stock.

And I bought one from Tom. It works great, and I don't get anything from Tom for giving his starters a plug. FWIW: In my case clearance wasn't an issue - I could have used a stock starter, but the mini saves a lot of weight and works fantastically.
