Custom Glock 22 or 27 every day. Sometimes My Seecamp .380 as a bug.

If anyone is thinking about a high end M&P, or custom work on a Glock, a guy I've known for a long time (Doug) can customize the most reliable and functional handgun you could imagine. I had him do serrations on both my Glocks and I can rack a round off just about any surface one handed if need be. He does top notch work for some of the top competitive shooters and trainers in the county.

Here's an independent review by a name some of you may be familiar with:

I've shot the Costa gun, it was sick!

Also something I highly recommend for a low cost high function upgrade, would be Trijicon HD Nightsights. They improved my shot placement significantly over the original Glock sights.

For the last 2 years I've carried a Ruger LCR in 38 special (+P). Prior to that a Ruger LC9. The LC9 while 100% over about 500 rounds of anything I ever fed it was no fun to practice with and the wife was afraid to use it. I think the LCR is lighter and pocket carries better as well when I don't want to IWB holster carry. Besides, the little revolver is bomb proof reliable even if you get a dud round.

M&p shield in 40 cal here. A lot of people don't like 40s but I love them. my girlfriend carries the beretta nano 9mm and has problems with not ejecting the cartridge. I think I'm getting her something different for Christmas.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

Does it do that with varying ammo? I have a SigSauer Mosquito 22 pistol, that I use for target, that 'prefers' CCI brass. Can't use any Winchester ammo. It will jamb or not eject. Wife's Ruger Mark III 22 will fire any ammo you load it with.

after looking at all the options mentioned here I really like the M&P shield line of sub compacts. What is it about the 40 cal that people don't like? I have never owned or fired a 40 so I have no opinion.

.40 has a more snappy recoil than lets say a .45 or 9mm. It tends to snap upward where a .45 is more of a push back recoil. I've had quite a bit of training with my .40's so my target re-acquisition between multiple shots, and my shot placement is good even on the move. I have over 7500 rounds through my Glock 22. That said, I'm still better getting back on target with a 9mm.

9mm is probably the most manageable round to shoot when it comes to recoil, shot placement, and getting back on target quickly in multi shot scenarios. And in the end, its ALL about shot placement. Not caliber.

You can't go wrong with an M&P. Good choice. As far as .40, .45, or 9mm, I highly suggest you try them all and see which one you like best. Most ranges have rentals.

The .40 Smith round is kinda "snappy" in a full size pistol. I can't imagine what it's like in the Shield, but I'm pretty sure I'd pass on it. If you really gotta know find a local range that has one in their loaner fleet and try before you buy. The modern 9mm hollow points especially when you buy the rounds loaded for short barrels should do an adequate job for self defense.

Regarding the Nano I've never heard of anyone having issues with them.. I would give it a good run at the range in your hands as odds are she's limp wristing it and causing the FTE issue. I've seen my wife do this with my full size M+P and prior to that incident I would have thought it impossible to make that pistol malfunction.

I have had three of my four so long that there is no paperwork on them. None was required at the time of purchase. The only one that the guv'ment knows about is my Mossberg 12 GA pump. I have had one of the four since 1952; another since 1961.

Oh, poor you. You want to have your 2nd amendment rights restricted? Come to NJ. Buying a gun takes longer than what you described, but at least once I actually go to the police station to pick up the purchase permit (that took a few weeks to come through), I can go straight to the gun store and buy the gun. Taking it to the range involves the unloaded gun being transported in a locked case in a separate area of the vehicle than the ammo. ie...gun in the trunk, ammo in the passenger compartment. As far as a carry permit in NJ...don't make me laugh. You ain't getting it. No matter what. No way. No how.

The People's Republic of NJ is probably the only state worse than New Yorkistan. You guys cant even have hollow points. Whats up with that?

That's not quite true. I've bought them for my S&W 357 at (now defunct) Sports Authority, but it's an additional crime to commit a crime with hollow points, including possession of a loaded weapon (outside of your own property or a gun range). If the gun is loaded with hollow points and they catch you carrying it, or robbing a liquor store...it's one more thing to charge you with. As if robbers care about one more charge.

John, No sure if I am understanding you here or not but open carry is not allowed in Massachusetts period. Not going to test that either. Because of our little jerk of an Attorney General Maura Healy we cannot buy a Glock or many other guns in Mass because she is a dictator and makes it up as she goes. If she does not like anything then it is outlawed. You can own one if you figure out how to get it without actually buying it here. She is actually suing Glock for safety reasons? She outlawed AR15's in July after being legal here since 1994. Blamed Orlando Gay night club shooter. Said anyone who owns one here bought it illegally. Thousands of Mass. residents and gun store owners now wait for the knock on the door. Not just for confiscation but prison. This is scary crap and is actually happening in our country. For any of you who are confused just feel lucky you don't live here. I cannot wait for the day I move.

As Far as The S&W Shield I carry the 9 and find it to be a great gun. Can't beat the price. It does take some practice. I was low and left with it for sometime but got much better with practice. It carries one more round than the Glock 43. I have heard many say the 43 pinches their finger when pulling the trigger as well. I have the S&W M&P compact in a 40. I think the 40 is a bit much for the Shield. Smith just introduce the Shield 45! That must have some pop. Not big on Hammer Guns for carry and mine have no safeties. I know if I pull the trigger it is go time. Nothing to think about. Check out Stealth Gear Onyx inside waste band holsters. Only one I have found that is vented. Very comfortable.

Slim, you need to vote in some new politicians. I bet the bad guys still have guns though don't they? A bit easier to control a population on an island I bet. Start a Revolution! You can be the Australian George Washington.

Good grief, that is BEAUTIFUL! .357 is one of my favorite calibers.

Man, some of you guys remind me why I enjoy living in Ohio. CCW? Yep. Open carry? Yep. Restrictions on big scary black semiautomatic rifles? Nope (outside of federal nfa rules obviously). My only complaint is we can't hunt deer with high powered rifles (I.e. 30-06, 270, 308, etc) here.

Thanks!:pp Its the centerpiece of my collection. My favorite snake. A 1980 Python, unfired in the original box with letter of provenance from Colt. It wasn't cheap
