Well today I picked up a cool car! I am going to put a Buick 350 with forged pistons and a single turbo kit in there and back it up with the CK Performance 200r4 trans and make it a street/strip car. I am planning to paint it all black myself and have fun with it and not worry about scratches or rock chips. The rear end is a fully built and spooled 10 bolt with 4.88 gears. With the gears and overdrive trans I will be able to launch it like a bastard and still drive the highway. I could not resist it and the price was right! I have been around this car for years, it was last running 10.35 in the quarter with a 6.0 LS engine and it hooks and goes straight so it should be a lot of fun! I may just get it running without boost and see how it runs before adding boost.

Looks like the definition of a beater! The standard 231 frame and motor mounts I believe work perfectly for the Buick 350. I've ran 4.56 gears and a 200-4r and the highway driving isn't bad IMO. Any rear suspension mods? or simple slapper bars?

Got some better pics of the new car and getting parts together for an iron head NA Buick 350 engine.

This is the cam I am stuffing in there:

I will have to have 60 thou milled off the block, and then use the steel shim gaskets but it will give over 10.6:1 compression with these heads. TA roller rockers. the Herche rods, Diamond pistons, X factor intake, Holley 750 carb. MSD dist, just stuff I have kicking around. It will not be optimum but it will run well I am sure. I will drive it around a bit on the street but more of a track car.

    Better pics:

Why not make a 4 wheele drive out of it like an Aspen? If your looking for a thrill try moving the driver seat to above the rear end in the middle , then put a bubble dome roll cage for a panaramic view. Make this new project interesting. It looks like you have already been there done that with this one.

LOL thanks Anson, all good ideas! I am going to try it without a turbo first to see how I like it so at least that part is different... I have so many engines and trans kicking around I might as well build another Buick 350 car, and these are light and cool looking I think. Now that my 70 Skylark is painted it just takes the fun out of beating on it on the street and parking lots are stressful... This one will be my beater, no high end parts and no stress involved.

Thanks for the shot underneath. Looks like homemade slapper bars, probably a proper length too (aftermarket's are too short). You know it's rough and tumble when a forklift is an acceptable way to lift the car, lol. Actually lifting from the slapper bars and the front subframe is a very solid way to lift that car with very low likelihood of damage, particularly if there is no transmission installed.

Then there is that T/A on a truck(?) chassis in the background!

I have seen this car run in the low 10s without too much of a motor so I know the car works... I have seen it get wheels up launches. I opened the rear end today and found a 5.57 gear in the rear! I'm still going to use this and use the 200R4 trans. On the highway it will rev right at 3000 RPM which is ok considering the big cam I am adding it will not be happy under 2500.

The theme is low buck and use spare parts to build it.

Yes David the guy I bought the car from is the owner of "David T" which is like the holly Grail for guys with mullets! I'm half bald but I am a redneck so its a pretty cool place of you ask me!

Like any guy David likes trucks, but he needs a special type of truck.... A cam truck!!!

Bummer, wanted to see what a good running N/A sbb 350 could do in that thing!

The car was perfect for someone with a boat load of engines and the car without one.

Yeah I just had too many vehicles and had to get rid of some. I had 17 vehicles recently, down to 9 now, much more manageable. Just finishing up my car hauler and my garage and then the lifted step-side truck is getting Buick 350 power. I finally have welders and fabrication tools plus a shop that I do not need to share with the mini-van and kids so it will be a lot easier to get things done.
