I've seen many AFB dual quad engines with small individual aftermarket air cleaners. Would they be too restrictive to air flow? Where can I find nice ones? Anyone have a couple to sell? The stock gargantuan air cleaner is nice for a show where authenticity is important but other than that they hide the engine bay "money shot" everyone wants to see.
Chrysler made small unsilenced, low-restriction air cleaners for use on their "B" engines with AFB dual quads. I'm sure that there are some still around. Update: FRP reproductions makes or made them - they are a little pricey, but I'll bet you can find a set used.
Any of the dual quad or cross ram mopar air cleaners will cost an arm I have a long dual cleaner from summit racing on my dodge No dyno numbers because I dont care, I just cruise in this ol girl
Hi, I'm running a set of early 60's air cleaners, story I got was they were put on by a Pontiac dealer on early super duty cars, the factory super duty air cleaners are available same as the one's on early Vettes, though they are more like flame arrestors as no elements to change. Any small air cleaner will work, the hard part is finding the small air cleaner bases I think 4 7/16 (may want to verify as my memory is not the greatest) vs 5 1/8. All depends on which carbs your running factory or aftermarket. Here's a money shoot for you. I too took off my factory air cleaner as no one beside Buick people knew it had dual quads. Regards,

I was poking around the internet and found a set of the FRP oval type cleaners for $260. For whatever reason, everything that is Mopar performance-related is made of gold.
Thanks for all the replies guys. Oddly looking at aftermarket suppliers they list various specs but not the diameter of the top side gasket surface. No way to know if it will adapt to the 4.15" AFB tops. I'll have to contact them and ask Next thing I need to do is figure out a good way to check the clearance from carb top to hood. Looking at this one by Billet Specialties though its a little pricey. I'll be surprised if I have the clearance for it
Here's the one I am using .... at least till I'm done building it. I think if I look hard enough I could find an oval air filter for it but I just don't care. I bought this one on this board.
Is that a 4L80e behind your 'nail? The one-piece case and that adapter plate makes me think it is... Just curious, as I'm in the middle of figuring out what I want to adapt behind my build...
I run a Ford-style oval air cleaner on my blue '66. Goes real well with the Buick aluminum valve covers. The eBay seller I bought it from claimed it was actually from the Batmobile (!), which is entirely possible, but I didn't pay a premium for it.... got it for $35. I'm only using the top since the base (8-1/2") didn't fit my carb spacing. My base is simply cut from a 1/8" thick piece of aluminum sheet. Sits right on top of the aftermarket AFB's (Comp series). Made a few cutouts to provide clearance for the accelerator pump. The stock AFB's have a different top, and I think they are taller. Filter element is avail is a short or tall version, I'm using the short since it fits under the hood. Been wanting to make a dropped base so I can use a taller filter, but that's a project for another time. I'll get some more pics of the base up this weekend. The tops are avail from various Ford resto suppliers. Tony Branda has the tops for $110, and a blank stamped bottom for $30. Filter elements are $18.
