Ha! I like him already. Sorry he's not around, so let us "yell" at you instead.

    Looking forward to your progress...

He's in Florida.. But in December I will be a dad soon. So onto bigger things. I have to get this car working right, so the wife doesn't make me sell it :)

    Congrats early!

My '67 belonged to a girl I dated in high school, '85. She broke up with me, and I bought it from her mom in spite. Dated the girl later in college, '91. She left me again for grad school. Finally got the last word, she came back to MI for a fourth Master's Degree. I married her in '07.

To this day she says she's only in it for the car.

Go get the timing straightened out. It'll be a chore, but you'll be glad you did it.

Yes, but if he still has the stock distributor springs, they don't allow full mechanical advance until 4600 RPM. Install some light springs to lower the RPM where all the mechanical advance is in.

I will check the distributor first then, and report back.

Then you make a 30* mark on your balancer. 30* is 1 3/4" of the circumference of the balancer. Standing in front of the car, measure EXACTLY 1 3/4" CLOCKWISE from the stock mark. Measure as precisely as you can, this is very important. Make a new mark that is as thin as possible yet visible, and make sure you can distinguish it from the stock mark. Install light springs in the distributor. Disconnect and plug the vacuum advance. Hook up your light and start the engine. Look for your 30* mark. Rev the engine slowly and watch your 30* mark. It should move up as you rev the engine. At some point it will move no higher. Look where it is in relation to the timing tab. If it lines up with a hash mark on the timing tab, your timing is 30* + the reading on the timing tab.

There is no way I would let the woman I am with even suggest anything remotely like that.

I told her I would make her live in it lol. I wouldn't.. Not when it isn't any type of financial burden. Lol trust me.. It won't happen.

I was seeing a girl when I bought my car and she HATED it. She was furious that I bought it and I literally had to beg her to ride in it with me. She would sit really low in the seat because she didn't want anyone to see her in it. Mind you my car is not perfect but is not beater status either. I have been offered 7k on the spot for it just randomly without me even hinting at wanting to sell.

One of my co workers convinced her husband to sell his terminator Mustang because "he doesn't need toys anymore" I told her "is that a joke?" and her response was something like "he is a man now and has better things to spend money on like a house" I asked her exactly what she is going to sell because after all she is an adult now too and I got nothing but a blank stare. Dude paid between 5 and 10k for the engagement ring.

in picture number two you can see a line on the ground strap of the plug. it is too low and should be right at the bend of the ground strap. By reading your spark plug you have too much timing. retard it down, put a new plug in it and make a hard run. Shut it down and try not to idle it. pull the plug and get an accurate reading.

You mean the spark plug gapping? If so.. It's set at .030 as specified.

no I mean the ground strap. the strap that goes from the base of the plug and the end of the strap is where you gap the bottom of the strap and to the top of the electrode.
You need to look into how to read a spark plug. gap is the distance in which the spark needs to jump to ground. that ground strap and gets hot and that's what leaves the line on it. too hot , line further down to base circle. too cold closer to the tip of the strap.

Paul, not for nothing, but that plug looks like someone took a hammer to it and put it in a sandblaster:laugh: I'm sure he has too much timing in it, I just wish someone would put a timing light on it and set the timing right. If he lived near me, I'd do it myself.

This is one of the "normal" spark plugs... Is this acceptable? Should I replace them all.. They all look like this except for patient 0 (the ugly hammered one)
