I was poking around the internet and came across this article on 2-door Wagons, and at the bottom is a picture of a 2-door Sportwagon, looks like a decent custom job. Anybody know anything about this car and/or seen it in person? I like it!
This is the turbo V-6 conversion. (Re: 2-Door Sportwagon) Dear James and V-8 Buick long-roof fans, There are at least two such conversions. One uses a small-block Chevy engine as the power plant. This one appears to be the one with the turbo-charged V-6 from a Buick Grand National or related Buick. This car has been apparently suffering from owner's regret. It periodically goes on sale, but the owner never gets anything close to what he put into it and so he keeps it. Sorry I don't know about a web page that really tells the story of this car. If anybody finds such a story - I - would like to know about it!
This car was featured on a segment of "My Classic Car" with Dennis Gage at one time. I was shocked when they opened the hood to reveal a GN powerplant (but in a good way.)
http://sportscargallery.com/1964 Buick Sport Wagon Custom.htm According to the above site, the engine is a 3800 Supercharged out of a 2003 Park Avenue...interesting, and a ton of pictures.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHkyiWnnfIo My Classic Car, Season 14, Episode 15, about 15:40 the coverage begins. Nice car, I agree that Buick shoulda made them!
Correct me if Im wrong but isnt the car on My classic car is a different car than the picture in the orig post?
The colors in the pics are different, but I'd say that it's just different photo quality. Hard to imagine 2 people going to all that effort...
Thanks for the links and video (Re: 2-Door Sportwagon) Dear James, Roy, and V-8 Buick longroof fans, Thanks for the links. I've bookmarked them so I can answer this question should it come up again. The My Classic Car episode appear to be the same car after some modifications. It has the Buick rally wheels and the engine doesn't have as much chrome, but the interior is the same. However, Roy is correct. I've seen at least another 2-door wagon custom with a Chevy small-block power plant. Cheers, Edouard
There actually are two of these. The one pictured at the top of this thread is not the one with the SC3800; that one is a brighter shade of yellow, and has a GS-like side treatment, as opposed to the Skylark-style side stainless sen on this car.
I saw an unfinished on in the wrecking yard about 25 years ago. It was a 1965 Chevelle 2 door wagon, with a Buick GS front end and the SportWagon roof welded on. It was a very very good job, likely done by a body shop, but then it was unfinished and left out to pasture.
