Ok, so I got the mustang serpentine cank pulley to mount up to the 350. Had to drill out the holes and it lined up. Now im really not seeing boost, maybe 1 or 2 lbs. The pulley is 3.25. How much boost should I be seeing. Keep in mind this powerdyne is from a mustang, I think a 4.6 .
The crank pulley is 6.5" and the blower pulley is 3". As per 928 motorsport, it is spinning the impeller at 26,000 rpm at 4 grand. Max for the bd 11-a is 38,000.
I went through all the hose clamps, took the carb off and the adapter plate, made sure everything is tight. Making about 3 lbs boost. I need to play with the timing some more. Couple of updated photos. This uses the bracket that came with the powerdyne, intended for a mustang. I mounted it to the a/c bracket .
Did some calculations and @5000 rpm you put out 800 cfm. Compared to what procharger (925HP/1400CFM) claims that should be good for about 500 hp. Of course that is all perfect world conditions. So your 3 psi@ 4000 rpms does not seem far off. I would still check for belt slip. Put some belt dressing on the pulleys and see if the boost comes up.
Thanks, i have been keeping it to 4k rpm,not sure I should take it to 5k. I will try the belt dressing, I think it is slipping since the boost level isn't consistent. I feel it may be because of the belt. It's the only one napa had in the length I needed and may not be best for this application. It's napa brand belt. Maybe it's just not tight enough. Test days are getting slim, it's cold out and I need a new top.
Seeing how I am going skiing tomorrow I think test days are over for me. Going to pull batteries today.
Wow, I guess I shouldn't complain , maybe I will just wear a heavy jacket and be that guy driving a convertible way past the end of the season.
Sean you are talking communist temperature? That's only -4 *F That is what the C stands for?:idea2:
Sorry I side tracked the thread but C stands for COLD LOL! But do not worry it should warm up to -17 later today LOL!
Little update, I put a 2.6 inch pulley on the powerdyne and had it out for a little ride last night , makes 3lbs boost right away and builds to7,runs great except at higher rpm s it seems to break up a little as if missfiring. I also put new points and coil over the winter. Should I regap the plugs? Maybe "hotter" plugs? They are stock plugs with the stock gap. By the way it did this with the old pulley, coil and points. Thanks for any info.
Do not go to "hotter" plugs. Most of the time you go with less gap on blower motors. Not sure if a stock ignition system is up to the needs of a boosted motor. That being said make sure every other part of your ignition system is perfect before looking for ignition upgrades. I do have an 6AL box that I took off when I went with 6AL-2 programmable. Would give you a good deal on it. Been keeping it around in case I wanted to put it on my boat but really don't need it.
Thanks, I will regap the plugs and see if that does anything, how small of a gap should i go? Can I use the 6al with points? That one doesn't pull any timing with boost does it? Right now I'm am running the distributer locked at 24*.
