    Bob,
Have a look at the governor bore and see how the governor fits into that bore. It either isn't meshing correctly with the output shaft drive gear, or the governor is rocking around in the bore. I would PM Bruce Roe and show him that gear. You could also E-mail Mark DeConti at DCM422@aol.com. He is our resident Transmission expert.

Larry what is Bruce's signature on here, maybe I can get him to look at the picture of the gear I posted.

Doug I hope i never get to the point that I can't take a joke. The upside to my tranny problem is it isn't going to take a rebuild to fix it.:TU:

Bob, I know you can laugh at all the situations we "engineer" ourselves into. I know I am an expert at "fix it until it's broke."

Adam, that should be "we all pray for good karma every time we hit the go-pedal with a 200-4R behind a superchargedbig block."

Do you seriously beat on that thing? I'm nervous now and can't imagine feeling confident with a supercharger on there...

I know a guy that runs high 9's naturally aspirated and low 9's with a little N20 and puts a couple thousand miles a year on his car with a 2004r. Last time I talked to him he hadn't had the trans apart since 2009 or so, and even then it was just to check it iirc. Still, I'd be nervous too!

Update on bullet proof.:TU: It is up and running and the cost was zero dollars. The local transmission shop ordered a new gear for me and then gave it to me at no charge. He did ask that I didn't forget him if and when I need any major work done. I told him I would tell all my 200-R4 friends.:bla::laugh:. Funny thing is I don't know the shop owner from Adam but he has a good rep around here. Now when J.W. gets a governor set up for me I can raise the shift points. By the way the tranny guys term for the way the gear wore was, it was apple cored. Said he has seen it several times, everything in the gear area looks like new. After a couple road trips I'll take a look at it.
Thanks again for the suggestions guys. The razzing was fun too.

yeah, and the trans guy probably said, "oh no, no 200-4r's!" Glad it was an easy fix.

Bob, please let us know if you find any likes/dislikes in the performance between the two since you have had them both in the same car and working. I'm interested in shifts, mileage, noise, whatever comes to your mind, even if you say "nothing at all stands out from a drivability standpoint, they feel pretty much the same."

Not wanting to debate the probability of failure between the two, just want to hear the difference in how they "feel."

I cant help thinking you fixed the problem but didn't address the cause. Also, all that gear material is somewhere .. most likely in your trans gasket

Your not going to put a 200 behind Godzilla sitting out in the shop are you?

In a word, Nope. I already worry with the engine that is in front of my 200-4R now. More contemplating if I want to go TH400 and the GV route later, or more seriously consider a 4L80.

When my trans builder set up the first 200-4r he said take it out and break it. Took 6 years. Then it was only worn out. We are on too the next experiment so will see. My trans builder loves TH 400's but is really into making my setup live. We will see. I do cheat a bit and do not put a really sticky tire on it. Has not been to the strip since I supercharged.

Bob, Glad you got your problem fixed for cheap!

Alan as you know we all have a different way of doing things. I looked at the gear that drives the governor gear
and felt it. i didn't see a problem there. I'm not saying there isn't one but it might take a tear down to see it, I hope not. I'm sure there is debris from the gear stuck to the filter but I didn't see any sense in dropping the pan and changing the filter until I know the problem is fixed. I'm not sure about any debris in the trans gasket. I'm sure the filter isn't going to plug up before I get things ironed out. Rest assured when the problem is solved the pan will come off and the filter will be changed.:TU:

I hade the same apple core governor experience. Here is what happened to me. After getting the car together for the last drag race of the season, I get to within a mile of the track and hadn't yet punched it, to see how it felt. The minute I got into it, boom stuck in 1st gear. Pull out the governor apple core, pick up another governor take the car for a ride seems to be running fine, step on it and boom, governor 2 gone. Bring it back to the tranny shop they inspect the bore and asked if the trans had been sitting awhile, indeed it had. They attempt to clean up the governor bore, test drive boom, governor 3 gone. The solution was to replace the trans case, extreme I know but that is my governor story. Good luck and don't count it cured till you get after it a bit.

I know that could happen to me also. Like I said the gears and the bore all look good, but if it happens again it will have to come out. After I run it a little along with a few hard passes I will pull the gear and see what it looks like. I need to do this before I get the governor from JW Did you buy a new case or find a good used one?

I ended up getting a used case, haven't had any problems yet, well I do need about an extra 1,000 rpm stall for the switch pitch! Good luck, mine failed under load very quickly.

What I like about the 400+GV setup is the the gear spacing and how the GV blends in with the rest of the gear changes. I don't feel like the BBB needs the 1st gear
ratio of the 200-R4 to get things moving. All in all the 400+GV seems to be more fitting for the BBB than the 200-R4 I know some will disagree and thats fine. The one thing I do miss about the 200 is the lock up feature. I also like having the S/P wired to the brake light when stopping it idles in gear better than before. The little problem I'm having now is a little disappointing but not a mind changer.

agreed, minor problem. I was more interested in the difference in gear-spread and the lesser O/D ratio of the GV. Certainly you are bulletproof with the TH400. That is a wholly separate issue from whether the 200-4R is "good enough" strength-wise or not.
