big doin's goin on this winter, finally decided to go ahead with a TBI fuel injection . I was waiting for the new EZ-EFI 2.0 but they keep pushing the release date back and I hear that It will cost around 3500 bucks. so I went with the MSD Atomic set up. it is probably the only one that will support up to 650 hp. (I guess the ez one will also, but im not waiting/paying for something like that). well they claim "install in the morning and cruise that same night" is crap! it has been easy to install (so far) but it does not come with everything I need for the install. it has gotten to be rather expensive. here is a breakdown of cost.
$ 2,175 for TBi and computer
$ 600 for the high horse power fuel pump
$ 150 aprox for the fittings.
    $ 30 for additional hose
$ 110 for fuel pressure regulator.
im still installing it so there may be additional costs.

It required a separate fuel pressure regulator?? I figured the claims were crap. Does it run well at least? I've been wondering if these things have issues when the gas tank gets low on fuel, any experiences on that yet?

haven't started it yet, waiting on the pressure regulator and a little extra fuel line to come in the mail. expecting everything I should need to finish the project tomorrow, and a little extra time to squeeze into working on it. hoping to have it running by sunday. it may be that I only need a pressure regulator because I chose to run the optional return fuel line.

I'm just kind of surprised by the way they market it (which I've been skeptical of the claims from day one...) that it doesn't internally regulate pressure, especially with a return line.

Be watchful of how it behaves around a 1/4 tank of fuel. My t-bird with no baffles in the gas tank would stumble when stopping or turning once the fuel level got to around 1/4 tank until I added a surge tank. Baffles and/or a sump would accomplish the same thing as the surge tank. I'll be super impressed if they engineered a solution that solved pulling air out of the fuel line while maintaining pressure.

good news is that I already have a fuel tank sump installed from previous need for constant fuel. the bad news is I installed the pump under the rear bumper , which is about even with the middle of the tank. this may have been a mistake and I may move it to inside the frame rail under the cabin, im not sure.

Dan your car is awesome. Just read this thread tonight and it's amazing how quick these things come together when you get to read years worth of work in just 30 minutes.

Anyways Im really curious to see how well that injection works.
Have you taken your car to the strip yet with the manual?

haha rob... yes it took about a year to complete, but i have been working on the car for about 20 years (its complicated, dont ask). no, i have not taken it to the track since the manual transmission went in, but maybe i will go this year to see if there is a difference.

    20 years, I know what that's like.
I have people see me on the street and say "nice car, how much did you pay for it?"
    I say "600"
of course that was in 1982 and about a million hours of work later.

Quick update for those interested. got all wring and fuel lines ran and hooked up, were 2 minor fuel leaks and fixed them quickly, went to start her up and got nothing. further investigation has led me to find that i have no spark. not sure if this is a coincidence or i i did something to kill my MSD box or coil. going to replace the coil today and see if that was the problem (hopefully it is because its the cheaper of the 2 to replace). if that dosent fix the problem i already have a replacement MSD6A box.

well, replaced the coil, and my MSD 6A box. neither replacement fixed the problem. so after spending hours on the phone with MSD technical help (by the way MSD tech help is terrific. you get through right away and they are very patient). think it may be the throttle body itself. hopefully this is all it is. sent the TB back to MSD should be back Wednesday or Thursday.

update alert! after 3 weeks of messing with all kinds of problems finally got the beast running! had to send back the throttle body, even though MSD said there was nothing wrong with the unit, it fired up right after I threw it on. well, it dint fire right up, still had sme bugs to work out, but it's running, still need to take it out on a test drive, probably will do tomorrow.
