    68riviera430 BRRRRAAAAP!

Kuwait is cool, just working like crazy 14-15 hour days. But, its all Buick money, funding my posi and cam swap when I get home, so I can't complain. Its 120 degrees on average too if I didnt mention that.
Ill be moving to the east coast for a short amount of time when I get back, so hopefully we'll be able to meet up sometime. Maybe Ill get a chance to see your GS in person. :beer

    Good luck with the project.

Unfortunately...me neither. I'm just doing the front clip, the rest of my car is in decent shape. I'll probably get it back together for the fall...:Dou:

Oh well. Keep it going and I'll try to do the same.

    Best of luck with it.

Update from the last 2 Sundays. Progress is progress but with my senior year of football in full swing now progress will be delayed. I want my car on the road by July 31 of next year. Deadlines are good. :TU:

Door jamb, left outer door edge, and the sides of the front fenders were all painted, along with the door weatherstripping being installed. I love the fresh red.

Louie: Love the progress on the car. My curiosity wants to know about
your next project you have listed. I would like to hear about that 71 stage 1
with the 19 / 19 paint code. I'm working on the exact same thing right now.
What does it have as far as options? Air-nonair, bench, buckets.?
    Thanks, Ken

    Hi Ken,

here is the story on the thread on the black car: http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=233382

So far all I know is AC, and buckets. Seems like a pretty plain jane Stage 1. I would love to see some pics of yours. Our cars seem to be more on the rare side.

After getting the core support patch and inner fender patch done (both of which were done surprisingly well by my Dad) We started buttoning up the front end to see how everything lined up. the left side of the core support needs to pulled out more and some more sculpting on the right fender needs to be done but overall the fitment of the front end is not to bad.

Overall I'm happy and it's really starting to look like this car will be on the road right when Summer hits. July 31st is still the dead line though! :TU:

Louie remember block sanding is your friend ,it's a pain in the butt but it's got to be done if you want the straightest paint job, even if you think it's good enough do it some more:TU:

Looks great Louie - you're beating me. My motor is getting finished up at Stage 1 but I'm still detailing and painting the front clip. I have a ton of work to do before the motor comes.

Car looks like its coming along nicely. Maybe a spring time meet up?

    All the best.

Looking good louie. I have a feeling when football is over you are going to be on it pretty hard. I suspect you beat the deadline easily.

I took a pretty long break from the car hobby for the last couple months. I think it was exactly what I needed and since I started back up I haven't been stopped. Last Sunday I took the font suspension apart. I ordered new front springs along with shocks, stabilizer links, a master cylinder, and 1.25" front sway bar bushings. After I get the springs and shocks in I'm going to swap over a brand new factory disc brake set up. Hopefully I will be able to do that all on Sunday. I'm also going to get a close ratio steering box.

I painted the right inner fender my dad welded a patch on, the pic does not do it justice, it looks like new. Also cleaned up and painted the 1.25" sway bar.

I took off the old, homemade 455 frame pads. These things just screamed unsafe and I was more than happy to replace them with Poston reproductions.

My most noticeable progress had to be the door skin I finished sanding the old paint off of. The spots that are grinding need an extremely small amount of bondo that wont even be noticeable when done. It also has 2 tiny pinholes in the lower right corner but it is 100 times better than the old door.

Finally, I took Adam Martin's (Smartin) advice and tried my hand at his brake boosting painting method. It can be found in this thread on his Centurion site: http://www.buickcenturion.com/forums/showthread.php?208-Engine-Compartment-Paint-what-to-use Although its not perfect or correct, It looks pretty and I am pretty pumped how turned out.

More progress this week, I am still shooting for the end of July, but I need to keep the ball rolling.

OK well lets just say I am a happy camper. A few weeks back I had a revelation that I was not going to get my car painted this year. Instead of moping around and walking away from it, I decided it doesn't have to be painted to be drivable. So now I'm in full swing on getting it road worthy. I go away to college (even though its only a half hour away) on August 11th. Classes do not start until the 27th but I decided to play college football so camp opens the 11th. I go away June 9th for a week so that leaves me from now until July 29th to get it on the road. July 29th is the biggest show around here with the exception of Fathers Day but I'm being realistic. Anyways here is whats going down:

    Engine:
Over the weekend we bought the 68 Riv GS listed in the Cars for Sale section. With all the parts included I pretty much have everything I need for my motor. My dads employee is building it for me.
    70 455 block
70 455 heads redone with stage 1 valves and springs
    TA 284-88H cam
    TA lifters
    Edelbrock performer intake
73 800 CFM carb completely rebuilt.
Pretty much brand new everything: water pump, timing chain, alternator, distributor cap, distributor rotor & points.
Full 2.5" exhaust on its way from TA, flowmaster 40s, and stock exhaust manifolds.

I might leave the trans stock for now but Included is a shift kit.

All new stock disc brake setup. Used booster, new master cylinder.
New front springs, front shocks, sway bar bushings, and stabilizer links.
I also have a 1.25" sway bar for it and I might buy a close ratio steering box.

I'm going to buy a carpet for it and possibly seat covers.

Wish me luck guys, I think I'll be on the road by the end of July. full swing and Im pretty darn excited.:blast:

I just realized I am terrible at updating this thread. I am have moved into my dorm at college now and I am having the time of my life while still realizing why I am here in the first place.

I am only a half hour from home so I have been home every Sunday to work on my car. I do not know why I haven't been going at the rate I have been in the last couple months.

The motor is in an running great! Ill post a video at the end of the thread.

The interior is 85% together, I still have to put the glass in the left door, and throw both door panels on. The front buckets were recovered along with a new carpet. I am debating whether or not to put the rally gauges and tach in now or wait until winter.

I am going to throw the front end on this weekend, and then next weekend it should be on the road! I'm going to drive it until the white stuff flies, then during the winter the posi will get swapped in, and the car will get painted!

I'll post interior pics when its complete.
