I know this is a long dormant thread but it is full of useful info.

I tore into mine today to get the neutral safety/backup switch wired up. I can get reverse lights and neutral start or I can have it start in park and get reverse lights in neutral and start in drive. How is yours holding up?

I went through and already found out the GN switch mounted differently and took mine apart to see if I could modify it. No such luck from what I can tell.

Glad you got it lined out!

The one I pieced together from the original and the 307 olds unit is still up and running. I have continuously used it through a 200-4r and two TH350s with no issues.

I am planning another 200-4r swap soon, like in the next month. Glad to see this thread getting use.

Just bought one of the GN units and some JB Weld at O'Reilley's. Wish me luck. Any other useful info as I'm working this little tidbit?

If you haven't done so already- call these guys:

    http://www.shiftworks.com/index.html

I swapped a TH350 into my '64 and I now have a working 3 speed shifter gate, 3 speed shifter lens, and neutral. reverse and park stuff working properly.

This guy can make anything, and haas a bunch of auto 4 speed stuff you might be able to use. The stuff I needed wasn't listed on his site- but he had it in stock and ready to ship and it fit.

I bought the overdrive console kit already. Didn't think about the NSS until I started trying to get it all lined up. Can't get P-N start and R-lights to work together. I just started the JB Weld project. Got the quick dry stuff so it should be ready by tomorrow morning easy.

Here's how mine turned out after cutting off all the extra plastic and grafting my old back onto it.

Didn't quite hold. It broke apart while I was attaching the leads. I had to make a neutral start harness from a couple of plugs and they were too stiff. I'll spread them a bit to make them easier to slip on and redo it tonight.

I did drive it after jumping the NSS switch. Got out on the road and tested the brakes and the shifter. I like the cable ShiftWorks uses, adjustable on both ends for length!

another idea: you could solder leads with spade terminals on them to the NSS terminals.

then you wouldnt be pushing on the fabbed up switch when you hook the harness up.

    good luck!

I think most of the problem is I pushed too hard after the switch was mounted. If I put the wires on first and then mount it, it should hold. I also have an idea about bending the tangs from the old metal plate to hold new plastic housing better. It is just something to work out.

Has anyone done the 200-R4 swap with the (auto) shifter on the column? I am planning on putting a 200-R4 in my 71 GS and was wondering about being able to use the original shifter linkage and how it would line up with the new trans?

I ran the column shift intermittently

The original linkages hook right up - my 72 had a TH350 column shift.

I took the bracket off my TH350 and put it on the 200-4r and the column shift linkages popped right in. I think I put everything in Neutral to get it to slip in.

The problem that I ran into was as mentioned in the prior post about the NSS. Had to mod that.

But the column shift linkages were fine the way they were.

Trying to do the same thing (Re: 200R4 swap)

    Dear Carl,

Looks like we have the same objective only your Buick isn't as well "seasoned" as mine!

I basically asked the same question in this thread: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=230489

What my scrounging around the Internet suggests is that you should be able to use the same Kugel Komponents Transmission Shift Arm Connection Kit. You can get it from Shiftworks (http://www.shiftworks.com/)and probably other places. If you want to get greedy and get things like the Neutral Start Switch to work properly with the 200-4R you can look through this thread and there are additional comments on the thread I started.

Alas, my car is still just in body shop purgatory, so I can't actually get fuss with the parts just yet. However *theoretically* it should be possible.

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

Ken, any chance of a interior video to see the nice crisp shifts? I am excited to get going on this swap and I will probably go with 3.55 gears so I can cruise comfortably at 70-75mph

I just finished up a "CQ" coded 200-4r (corvette unit?). upgraded with some hard parts, new seals, and some line pressure and boost valve mods.

But I really wanted to share this:

Everything is running very well, EXCEPT I ran into a slow/soft 1-2 shift, especially when applying more than 50% throttle. This is a common issue.

CK performance in their book recommends heavier accumulator valve spring and 1-2 accumulator spring up to 400hp at which point they recommend eliminating the 1-2 accumulator by plugging the feed with a check ball.

To address the soft shift, I did the check ball plug (and I should also mention that on rebuild I added the Red Alto oversize band).

Holey smokes does it give a hard 1-2 shift. Even at min throttle I chirp tires 1-2. At WOT I break the tires loose for a sec when the shift hits.

    This is off the nitrous.

Its got to be tough on the trans but I love it. Hope the drag radials can help it stick some.

This is with the stock intermediate band apply servo and springs for the CQ trans.

I think the CKperformance accumulator springs would be better for driveability and comfort while still giving a good hard shift when in the throttle. They have really well thought out stuff.

But if oyu want to do it on the cheap and like a hard shift like me, then try out this 1-2 accumulator elimination mod. Super hardshift, super fast apply.

    Buick Qjet with TV provision

Just thought I would update the summary post with some additional info.

I have found out that the Qjets off the late 70s Lesabres with 350s came STOCK with the TV cable arm on the throttle shaft.

Ive got a 17057241....its 800CFM, electric choke, and has the TV arm on the BUICK throttle shaft.

Dont know how many were produced, but its a great core to look for if youre into Buicks and are doing a 200r4 of 7004r swap.

I have seen one going rebuilt from JSS on ebay for about 160 rebuilt and another from another rebuilder iforget exact who.

So they are around. I lucked into mine at Carlisle PA spring swap.

I will be looking to collect more of these cores.

when I get my desktop fixed (motherboard went bad) I will get a pic of the Throttle arm posted.

Another item to add to this summary thread

There is an aftermarket TV and Throttle cable bracket made by TCI that is PERFECT for use with a Quadrajet. It mounts on the rear carb bolts.

It is a reproduction of the OEM bracket as far as I can tell.
