Joe I hear ya, some days are tough. Hang in there and keep your head up.

The pump is expensive but well worth it to buy the GM part, believe me. As a fleet mechanic I'm the guy that is replacing the fuel pump. The GM ones are more expensive so the fleet manager thinks its a great idea to go with aftermarket. The aftermarket ones are not only much louder but often only last between 25-30K miles. Buy the GM one, the originals last over 100K. And I've NEVER had to replace a replacement GM fuel pump because it failed!

    Consider a bad crank sensor.

    Joe,
I'm guessing you have a 6.0? Not the 8.1? Have you checked fuel pressure yet, or do you have a way to?

It's a 6.0 no codes.and no i did not check fuel pressure i have to go to autozone for the guage.Jim,crank sensor should trip a code?

crank sensor will set a code.try listening for the pump to run when you cycle the key on.have someone turn the key while you listen by the tank.it will only run for 3 seconds or so.try banging on the tank while cranking.if it starts it's for sure the pump.until you get a gauge at least.napa sells a delphi pump which is the same as factory pump.good luck.

Some advice.............If you don't have 5th wheel hitch, etc, unbolt the bed and get some help - set the bed back a couple of feet . MUCH easier to change the pump sender than dropping the tank. Unless your fuel tank is empty. 99% of the time, when the fuel pump craps out, the tank is usually full. Mine crapped at 235K and like others have recommended, pay the price for the GM one.

I honestly can't believe how many people think this is easier. 2 Straps, 3 quick disconnects, the filler necks and drop. if the tank has a signifigant amount of fuel, drain some before you lift it back up. I've done this hundreds of times back when I was wrenching..

Joe it was very easy. The full tank (22 g) and a very wet floor made my mind up.All my fuel jugs were in my trailer barried in 4ft of snow.
