Hi Bob, Be aware that there are a couple of different (factory) left side covers. The California emission cover (Yup, they hed 'em even in the '60s) had what appeared to be a dent - it looked like someone took a big ball-peen hammer to it) at the inside front corner of the left cover. It was to allow clearance for the A..I.R pump. These are rare but they do exist (I have one on my truck). The other 49 states type does not have the "dent". Also be aware that if you are using these covers in an air conditioned car, the rear compressor bracket for the stamped steel covers will not clear the aluminum covers. The bracket that will clear the covers is available aftermarket. In the event that you should need the bracket, get back to me and I will dig out the address of the supplier.

From my experience, all '66 cast aluminum covers had the "dent" in that corner even if they weren't bound for California. I got a set off of a Colorado car like that. There is also a "groove" on the inside of that cover for the throttle linkage. I just traded them to a guy in TX who has a '66 with a '65 LX engine in it. (I got the '65 covers in exchange.) He painted the engine red, installed the correct valve covers, and now it looks original unless you start looking for numbers.

There are aftermarket repos of the "non-emission" covers. Usually there's a set for sale on ebay at all times. I think the TA Performance sells them as well.

Yes, however there are 3 different rear brackets for A/C compressor. The finned aluminum valve covers were usually part of the same option with the 2x4 intake. Clarks Corvair has the rear A/C bracket for the single 4 barrel only (I checked). There is a different bracket for the 2x4 intake as the intake bolt location is about an inch off. Depending how "correct" you want to be, you can modify a "tall" one for a 4 barrel. Be aware of the "modified" ones you see on ebay....

I'm curious how many different brands- factory and aftermarket- finned valve covers there are for the nailhead. I've sure seen a boatload!
