i bought a edel. 1406 for my 66 401 nailhead. everything lines up perfect except the tranny kickdown for the super turbine tranny. i bought some universal bracket, but for the life of me, i can't figure out how it works, or where to mount it. it looks cheap and ****ty, and i don't think it would hold it in place. does anyone have pics of have done this before?? i spent hours trying to figure it out, and i've banged my head against the wall, SO frustrating.

Do you have the original carb? Maybe it'd be easier to just swap throttle shafts--and then you have the original style throttle lever with the OEM mounting points for the various linkage pieces.

i took a look at that, but it looks like too much mickey mousing to get it to work, IF it would even work...:Do No:

I wound up putting a momentary switch on the console next to me, press the button, whammo! kick down, release button when the guy next to ou is now in the rear view mirror.
You can fab a bracket and weld it to the the accelerator arm (did that on my Skylark) I can shoot a pic for you to give you the idea. :TU:

Suggestion,,,,,Check and see if you can remove the actuator arm from the old carb ,,,, then fit and tig weld it to the arm of the new carb..... the butterfly shaft will provide a ref point for this.....

    NICE! thanks!

and YES i do realize i have my fuel line and vaccuum backwards LOL i gotta change that as soon as i get home LOL

    OK I FIXED IT!!!
i went to the parts store, and said "show me every bracket you have for these damn things" and of ALL the ones, the FORD one looks like it would be the closest, and guess what, after a couple hours in the dark and pissing rain, i ACTUALLY got it to work, HOLY. i

while i was at it, i ran new rubber lines from the fuel pump and added a new fuel filter (to keep up to edelbrock warranty standards ;) )i ordered new wires, put in new spark plugs, ordered a new rotor, new dist. cap, and changing out the points (on order) so my car is damn new ready to be fired up and see how she goes.

    pics.

here's the original setup, you can see that 3 is the throttle cable, and 2 is the tranny kickdown cable. notice that the kickdown cable stick out about 1 inch from the carb?? THAT was my problem, cuz the new edelbrock was flush...

so i added that little throttle lever extension FORD thingy, and it gave me that extra inch to line everything up....

and THERE is HOW you make a 1406 edelbrock (600cfm) carb fit on a 401nailhead with a super turbine 300 with a tranny kickdown switch without modifying or creating brackets :)

i THINK it was 1481? i might be wrong, just search "Edelbrock throttle lever extension" should just be for the Ford Application.

    Hi Metty!

    Thank you for the pics!

I have some questions for you...first some background:

    63 Riviera, 401 Nailhead 6.1L

I just mounted a 1405 600CFM Edelbrock carb. For the most part, everything lines up (throttle, transmission kick down, choke line). I plugged off the hole in the back of the edelbrock carb (as was the one in the back of the stock carb). I am confused about the 3 ports in front of the edelbrock carb. There is 1 smaller line coming from a unit attached to the ignition cap,

I am noticing in your pics that you have the fuel line connected to the middle port in front of the carb, which I thought was a vacuum line to be utilized or plugged off.

Which one of the smaller ports on the edelbrock carb do i plug in the line from the ignition cap.

    Anybody else, please chime in!

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Metty's fuel line is going into the PCV port. I hope he did not hurt himself when he tried to start the car.

you are correct, fuel goes in the upper side back of the Edelbrock.

Thank you Special wagon, i hope so as well, i can imagine that can cause a fire.

Now, I also have some overall questions regarding this motor, and will create my own thread, thank you again for clearing this up for me.

The one in his pics is the #1481 Chrysler one.
The Ford one is #1483, it might work too.

I think so to. I found a correct year 66 Carter on eBay though just now rebuilt. Now I have a choice here the Edelbrock 600 com (new) or a correct Carter to the 401 (rebuilt)with the heat choke but they said they can convert it to electric choke for a lil more of course. What should I do everyone? Thank you
